We were lucky to catch up with Bodhi Ryder recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bodhi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I would say that I am always happy as an artist. However, just being an artist isn’t typically what everyone is searching for. Most people, I think, want to fuse their art into a business so that they can do what they love. And this process isn’t always happy.
Even though I’ve been an author for 16 years, written nearly ten novels, and had numerous publishing contract offers, I’ve never actually accepted one. This is because I will not sign a contract where I do not have unequivocal final say on creative. It’s the one thing I cannot trade for commercial success.
So even though I love being an artist, sometimes it can be painful as an artist to try to make a living in the field. Though I hope that one day I’ll come across a publisher who is willing to take a chance and trust me to do what I love to do. What a world that would be.
For now, I’m becoming a Firefighter. And I love the thought and act of this too =)
Life is good.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Bodhi Ryder, and I write fantasy/adventure novels. I am most prominently known for The Curseborn Saga and The Monastery. I’ve had two graphic novel adaptations, and have been working as a novelist for around 16 years with my brother and my best friend from high school.
Essentially, and in a nutshell, we create high fantasy stories and worlds for people to dive into. We hope to inspire our readers around the world to seek courage, and understand the darker aspects of human nature.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
No.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Freedom.
