We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Olesya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Olesya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client?
One of the most impactful moments I’ve experienced came from a maternity client who arrived to her session feeling very self-conscious. She told me she almost canceled because she didn’t feel like herself and was worried she wouldn’t look good in photos.
I reassured her that she did not need to know how to pose or be photogenic. That is something I guide completely. I walked her through every detail, from wardrobe to posture to subtle facial expressions, so she could relax and trust the process.
About halfway through the session, something shifted. You could see her confidence come back. By the end, she was moving naturally, smiling, and fully present in the experience.
When she came back to view her images, she became emotional. She said, “I can’t believe that’s me. I actually feel beautiful.”
That moment reinforced something I always tell my clients. You do not need to feel confident before your session. Confidence is something that builds during the experience. My role is not just to take photos, but to guide and create an environment where women feel seen, supported, and truly beautiful.
That transformation is what makes the work so meaningful to me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am the owner and lead photographer of Zesty Orange Photography, a boutique studio based in Austin, Texas, specializing in newborn and maternity photography.
My journey into this work started with a deep appreciation for preserving meaningful moments, but over time, it evolved into something much more intentional. I realized that what I truly offer is not just photography, but a fully guided experience where my clients feel taken care of from beginning to end.
Many of the women who come to me feel unsure about being in front of the camera. Pregnancy and early motherhood can be beautiful, but also vulnerable and unfamiliar. I created my studio to remove that uncertainty. Every session is carefully designed, with guidance on wardrobe, posing, and even subtle facial expressions, so my clients never feel like they have to figure anything out on their own.
What sets my work apart is the level of detail and direction I provide. I am known for my ability to guide clients into natural, flattering poses while creating images that feel timeless and refined. My background and experience allow me to anticipate what will look best for each individual, so the final result feels effortless and elevated.
I am especially proud of the transformations I witness during sessions. Clients often arrive feeling hesitant, but leave with a completely different sense of confidence. Seeing someone recognize their own beauty in a way they did not expect is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
At its core, my brand is built on trust, expertise, and a commitment to creating artwork that families will value for a lifetime. My goal is for every client to walk away not only with beautiful images but with an experience that feels personal, seamless, and truly exceptional.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The most effective source of new clients for me has been a combination of organic search and word of mouth, both driven by a strong, consistent client experience.
When someone searches for newborn or maternity photography in Austin, they are usually looking for someone they can trust with a very important moment in their lives. Because of that, I have focused heavily on creating a clear and informative online presence that answers their questions before they even reach out.
At the same time, referrals have been incredibly powerful. Clients who have gone through the full experience often share their results with friends and family, and that trust carries over. Many of my new clients come in already feeling confident because someone they know has worked with me.
What ties both of these together is consistency. From the first inquiry to the final artwork, I focus on creating a seamless, guided experience. That not only helps with visibility online, but also builds long term relationships that naturally bring in new clients over time.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation has been built through consistency, attention to detail, and the way I guide my clients throughout the entire process.
In a market like Austin, there are many talented photographers, so simply taking beautiful images is not enough. What truly sets a studio apart is the experience behind those images. I have focused on creating a process where clients feel supported from the very beginning, whether that is through wardrobe guidance, posing direction, or helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Over time, that level of care becomes something people talk about. Clients remember how they felt during their session, not just how the final images look. That emotional experience is what builds trust and encourages referrals.
I have also been very intentional about maintaining a consistent style and standard of work. When someone sees my images, I want them to immediately recognize the quality and the feeling behind them.
Reputation is not built overnight. It comes from showing up consistently, delivering at a high level, and making sure every client feels like they are in experienced hands.
