We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emma Silver. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emma below.
Emma , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve been telling stories since I was a kid, whether through the secret romance novels I wrote in middle school, my acting education and experience, my sales career, or onstage doing improv, and I’ve always been a huge reader as well. But I think most importantly, I had tenacity and a willingness to fail hard.

Emma , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been destined to write love stories. As a tween, I stayed up late, flashlight in hand, writing romance novels in journals hidden strategically behind a tapestry against my bedroom wall. But it wasn’t until my forties that I realized that my childhood talent was actually my adult career.
My novels (and my newsletters!) feature a plethora of spicy scenes and child-free by choice characters caught up in passionate emotional entanglements. They explore their desires, work through their internal obstacles, and push women’s pleasure from far-away fantasy to palpable, toe-curling escape.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It’s so important to me to amplify child-free by choice representation in my novels. There are all kinds of happily-ever-afters, and, now more than ever, affirming women’s choice is essential.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I was younger, I was always waiting for permission to do what I wanted to do, and I’ve had to deprogram that multiple times. Whether it was a bold move in an improv scene, producing a play, or writing a novel, the need to hold off until someone who “had it more together than me” said it was okay was strong. But eventually, I realized I had to just do the thing, and that’s when the magic started to happen.
