We were lucky to catch up with Bill Burns recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bill, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I think just cosplay in general has been incredibly meaningful because you give so much back to those who enjoy seeing their favorite characters brought to life right in front of them. To some its reminds them of a time in their life that was a great memory to them growing up or even a current favorite character they enjoy. It’s a wonderful community.

Bill, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been a cosplayer since 2015 and before that a historical reenactor for 25 years.
I’m currently a sign artist for Trader Joe’s going into my 20th year with the company.
My whole life I have always been a creative from my jobs to my hobbies its been incredibly rewarding and I’ve been blessed to be able to give back with my talents in many avenues.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 while taking part in performing in a ‘haunt’ at the Winchester Mystery House. During my chemotherapy I had lost over 30lbs. I was weak and gaunt and thought this would just add to a ‘ghoulish look. I was determined to make lemonade out of lemons in this case. Never give up and thrive in the chaos!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Just giving back and sharing. There is no better reward.
