We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Delorian Davis & Megan Tensley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Delorian Davis & Megan Tensley below.
Hi Delorian Davis & Megan Tensley, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
In the event industry, you must be willing to remain a perpetual student. Our expertise is a blend of formal education and digital immersion. To sharpen our creative edge, we regularly attend floral and design masterclasses led by industry experts.
However, the “ever-changing” nature of events means learning never stops at the classroom door. We supplement our formal training with micro-learning courses and stay ahead of aesthetic trends through design blogs and social media tutorials. Whether it’s mastering a new installation technique or refining business management strategies, we believe that staying curious is the only way to stay relevant.
This is a service-driven industry, and while a “good eye” is important, three essential skills hold every successful event together:
Proactive Communication: We are the bridge between a client’s dream and a vendor’s execution. Being able to communicate professionally, clearly, and efficiently ensures that nothing is lost in translation.
Systematic Organization: We are often juggling multiple high-stakes timelines simultaneously. A disciplined, systematic approach to note-taking, task management, and prioritization isn’t just a “nice-to-have”—it is the backbone of the entire operation.
Critical Thinking & Agility: Design ideas can be incredibly complex to execute. We need the ability to look at a detailed plan and spot potential failures before they happen. When things don’t go as planned—which is inevitable—we must be the calmest person in the room, ready to resolve problems in real-time.
The greatest challenge—and one I think many entrepreneurs face—is time. We do not have an infinite amount of it.
The industry is demanding and deeply personal. While we would love to spend every waking minute lost in mood boards and floor plans, the real work lies in the balancing act. The primary obstacle to learning more is often the necessity of protecting our personal and family time. Learning to set boundaries is, ironically, one of the most important lessons we’ve had to master to keep the creative tank full.

Delorian Davis & Megan Tensley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At Forever Classic Events, we specialize in full-service planning, day-of coordination, and elegant event design for modern, detail-loving clients across South and North Carolina. We bring clarity, calm, and expert execution and always ensure that our clients have an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our passion shows through our work ethic and the relationship that we carefully cultivate with our clients when we are hired.
We have loved working together and working with our clients. Forever Classic Events (FCE) has been fortunate to plan and design for clients from other states as well as execute events in other states. It is always humbling when a client chooses to work with us because we know they have many options. We are proud of our work and the relationships we cultivate when working with our clients. And, the true gratification comes in knowing that FCE has met and exceeded the expectations of our client and vendor family!
We are really proud of the rapport that we have built with vendors and venues. We often receive accolades exclaiming how easy it is to work with us and how well we perform our services, flawlessly executing events.
We want potential clients to know that if they are considering Forever Classic Events, they can feel confident knowing that their vision is in capable hands, backed by our talent, experience, and passion to make it real.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When we first started, the business relied almost entirely on the support of friends and family. While that “inner circle” nexus was a beautiful way to begin, we knew that we needed a more robust marketing strategy to scale. Initially, we invested in a prominent lead-generation platform for wedding planners. On paper, it was a success—our profile was a “hit,” and leads flooded in.
However, the conversion rate told a different story. We found ourselves caught in a cycle of unresponsive leads or inquiries where our high-touch service wasn’t the right financial fit. We realized that volume doesn’t equal value.
To pivot, we shifted our focus from third-party platforms to authentic brand storytelling on social media. Recognizing that we couldn’t do it all alone, we brought on a content creator and social media expert to help us maintain a consistent, high-quality presence. This move was transformative; it allowed us to connect with potential clients on a deeper, more organic level. Instead of just being a name on a list, we became a brand they could see, trust, and envision as part of their story.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding moment is the “Big Reveal”—that precise second when months of logistical planning and design sketches culminate in the physical reality of the event day.
There is an incredible sense of fulfillment in witnessing the awe on a client’s face when they step into a space we’ve transformed. We often say that our mission is to create events that are “Forever Classic.” While every client is unique and every vision is distinct, that timeless quality remains our North Star.
In a world of fleeting trends, being able to turn a unique, personal vision into a tangible, lasting memory is why we do what we do. Seeing the smiles and hearing the accolades from guests makes every late-night planning session and complex design challenge completely worthwhile.
