We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica DiMizio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
1. Tell us the story of the early days from when you decided to start your own practice to establishing the practice.
Starting my own practice was both exciting and scary. Ten years ago I knew I wanted to focus on Aesthetic Nursing after meeting an injector who wasn’t working in a “traditional” plastic surgeon’s office. She had her own business and was working alone in her own salon. I realized this was what I wanted to do. I went back to Nursing School, continued bedside nursing, and trained in Botox and Dermal Fillers. I quickly realized that training alone wasn’t enough. I wanted to understand not just techniques, but how to build a practice and offer patients a thoughtful, evidence-based approach.
2. What were the main steps you had to take?
• Gaining proper certifications and training in injectables.
• Continuing bedside nursing to strengthen my clinical foundation.
• Seeking mentorship to understand both business and clinical perspectives.
• Learning the business side: branding, pricing, consultations, and patient experience.
• Defining my own approach, philosophy, and the type of care I wanted to provide.
3. What were some of the key challenges in setting up your own office/practice?
• Managing self-doubt and fear of failure.
• Financial investment and risk associated with starting practice.
• Learning to run a business while providing evidence-based patient care.
• Protecting my mindset and focus, being careful who I shared my vision with to avoid unnecessary discouragement.
• Transitioning from focusing only on treatments to embracing my role as medical guidance for my clients.
4. Would you have done anything differently knowing what you know now?
I should have trusted myself sooner and worried less about having everything perfectly figured out. Growth comes from doing, not waiting. I also should have sought mentorship earlier, because even a few conversations had a huge impact on how I approached my practice and patients.
5. Any advice for a young professional who might be considering starting their own practice?
• Be ready to feel both excited and scared, it means you’re on the right path.
• Start before you feel “ready” you’ll learn along the way.
• Seeking mentorship from people you admire and respect.
• Go beyond basic training; understand the business side and your role as a medical provider.
• Protect your mindset and be selective about who you share your ideas with.
• Stay true to your vision and never stop learning.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m a Registered Nurse with a passion for Aesthetic Medicine, specializing in Skin Treatments like SkinPen Microneedling, VI Chemical Peels, Toskani (regenerative skin boosters), Procell Hair Loss Treatment, injectables such as Radiesse (a bio-stimulator), Botox, Dermal Fillers, and Vitamin B-12 shots.
My journey began as a patient. Visiting an injector outside the “traditional” Plastic Surgeon’s office sparked something in me I realized, “I want to do Aesthetics for women.” I wanted to combine my medical expertise with artistry to help people feel confident, natural, and refreshed in their own skin.
I returned to Nursing School, continued bedside care, and completed formal training in Botox and Fillers. But I quickly learned that success in Aesthetics is about more than a single treatment or technique. It’s about understanding anatomy and not just for safety, but to work with the aging process and developing thoughtful treatment plans and building a practice that reflects my values as an Injector.
I sought mentorship from an Injector I admired, Liz Diane, who uses the same treatments I offered but in unique ways. Even just a few conversations with her reshaped my approach, helping me think critically about business, patient experience, and my role as the Medical Guidance for my clients.
In my practice, I create customized treatment plans tailored to each patient, combining modalities for natural, beautiful results. I focus on education, safety, and evidence-based care, ensuring every patient feels confident in the decisions we make together. What sets me apart is my dedication to continuous learning, safety, and thoughtful, individualized care. I don’t just perform procedures, I assess, educate, and prescribe what’s best for each patient.
I’m most proud of building a practice where patients feel truly seen and guided, not just treated. Recently, I’ve experienced significant growth on the business side, redefining consultations, patient experience, and my overall vision.
For anyone considering working with me, my approach is intentional, patient-centered, and grounded in both medical expertise and artistry. My brand is about more than treatments, it’s about helping clients feel confident, educated, and supported every step of the way.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation has been built on delivering high-quality results and exceptional client care. I create a welcoming, supportive space where every client feels heard, valued, and cared for. By providing personalized attention, guidance, and education, I ensure clients know how important they are to me and my genuine care has been key to earning their trust.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building strong, personal relationships. I focus on providing exceptional care, educating clients, and creating an experience where they feel valued and supported. Satisfied clients naturally refer friends and family.
