We were lucky to catch up with Krystalynn Ulrich recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krystalynn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is my “Sustainable or Greenwashing” series. I started it after noticing how overwhelming—and honestly misleading—the online space can be when it comes to “sustainable” or “wellness” products. There’s so much pressure to buy more, do more, and be “perfect,” and I wanted to create something that helped people slow down, ask better questions, and feel empowered instead of confused.
What began as a few videos turned into a full series where I break down brands, ingredients, certifications, and marketing claims in a way that’s approachable and non-judgmental. The goal has never been to call people out or make anyone feel bad—it’s to offer clarity and encourage more mindful, intentional choices. Over time, it’s grown into a space where my audience feels comfortable learning, questioning, and even rethinking their habits without shame.
What makes it especially meaningful is the response from my community. I hear from people all the time who say it’s changed how they shop, helped them save money, or simply made them feel less alone in trying to live more consciously. In a digital world that often pushes overconsumption and comparison, being able to create content that centers positivity, education, and realistic sustainability feels incredibly grounding. It’s reminded me that social media can be a space for good—it just takes intention.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Krystalynn Gier—most people call me Krys—and I’m a content creator focused on helping people better care for their mind, body, and planet. I got into this space a few years ago through my background in marketing and advertising, combined with a personal desire to live more intentionally. I started sharing my own journey online—learning about sustainability, simplifying my routines, and questioning the products I was using—and it quickly grew into a community of people who were craving a more realistic, approachable way to think about wellness and conscious living.
Today, I create content across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and my blog, where I focus on eco-friendly living, wellness routines, and breaking down greenwashing in a way that’s easy to understand. I also offer digital products like Notion templates, guides, and resources designed to help people build mindful habits and make more informed choices without feeling overwhelmed. My work really sits at the intersection of education and lifestyle—I love taking complex topics like sustainability or ingredient transparency and translating them into something that feels actionable and relevant to everyday life.
The problem I aim to solve is the feeling that you have to be “perfect” to live sustainably or take care of yourself well. There’s a lot of pressure online to constantly buy more, optimize everything, or follow every trend, and that can feel exhausting. My approach is rooted in progress over perfection, helping people slow down, use what they already have, and build routines that actually support their lives long-term.
What sets my work apart is the balance between honest education and a cozy, relatable tone. I’m not here to shame or overwhelm – I’m here to feel like a trusted friend who’s done the research and can help you navigate it in a grounded way. Whether I’m sharing a “Sustainable or Greenwashing” deep dive, a routine reset, or a simple tip to reduce waste, everything is designed to feel approachable and encouraging.
What I’m most proud of is the community that’s grown around this message. It’s a space where people feel safe to ask questions, rethink habits, and support each other without judgment. At the end of the day, I want people to know that my work is about making intentional living feel accessible, positive, and genuinely doable—not something reserved for a perfect version of themselves, but something they can start right where they are.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the core of everything I create is the goal of helping people feel like they can live more intentionally without needing to be perfect.
There’s so much pressure online to constantly consume more, optimize every part of your life, or keep up with trends, and it can feel overwhelming and discouraging. My mission is to offer an alternative to that—creating content that encourages people to slow down, think critically, and build routines that actually support their mind, body, and planet in a realistic way.
I want my work to be a space that feels positive, grounded, and empowering, where people can learn, unlearn, and make more mindful choices without guilt or shame. If someone walks away from my content feeling a little more informed, a little less pressured, and a little more connected to their own values, then I feel like I’ve done my job!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience by simply starting before I felt ready. In the beginning, I didn’t have everything figured out—I was learning, experimenting, and sharing in real time, which ended up being what resonated most. Over time, I found that showing up consistently, staying curious, and creating content that felt true to me—not just what was trending—helped me build a genuine connection with my audience.
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to just get started and give yourself permission to improve as you go. There’s so much room online for more positive, thoughtful voices, especially in spaces that can often feel overwhelming or consumption-driven. Focus on what you care about, share what you’re learning, and don’t wait until it’s perfect—because it never will be. The more you create, the more you’ll understand what resonates, and that’s where the growth really happens!
