Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amelia Herschede. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amelia, thanks for joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I started working in fitness back when I had a corporate 9 to 5. I’ve always been intentional with finances and wanted to be able to work out for free, so I would work the front desk a few times a week for a free membership. That trickled into me working in fitness management for about 5 years long before I ever became a teacher. I always thought I wanted to work behind the scenes in the fitness industry, but that all shifted as soon as I did my YTT. Once I landed my first teaching gig, I quit my corporate job so I could spend all my time in fitness. Through my many years of working in fitness management I made many connections and have a wide network in the industry, to which all of the places I teach at now are through those connections.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My path into my career as a fitness teacher came from passion built through pain. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 10 years old and have been in and out of pain almost my whole life. Even as a kid I realized that motion is lotion, and the more I stayed still the more I became stiff, so movement became my medicine. As I became an adult and grew in my career in fitness, I realized that my pain brought my purpose, and led me down my dharma path of becoming a fitness teacher. In my practices, I bring passion and intentionality to all my classes I teach, as I know how fragile the body can be but also how capable it can be! I also speak on how our bodies deserve grace and love, as it’s working its best to keep you at your best!

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Network and connections bring about the most authentic alignment and collaborations. Knowing people and having them know you is key so that when they need someone that works in your field, they know immediately to call on you! I also find it important to accept all opportunities that come your way, because even if the opportunity doesn’t feel aligned, you never know who it will align you with and what may transpire from it!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being your most authentic self while also stepping out of your comfort zone. Magic happens outside of our comfort zones, and I’m definitely more of an introvert, but I know that life is more fulfilling when it’s connected to community! So I stepped out of my comfort zone to create community that was aligned with my authenticity, which helped align me to the connections I needed to grow in my career!
