We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronika Gant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Veronika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on wasn’t something I planned to be extraordinary at the time. It was a simple session with a client who wanted to capture a beautiful moment in her life – something timeless, something she could hold onto.
Just a few days after our session, she unexpectedly passed away.
That experience stayed with me in a way I can’t fully describe. It shifted something deep inside me. It made me realize that photography is not just about creating beautiful images – it’s about preserving presence, emotion, and moments that may never come again.
For her family, those photographs became more than portraits. They became a connection, a memory, a piece of her that will always remain.
Since then, I approach every session differently. I don’t just focus on light, styling, or composition – I focus on the person in front of me, their energy, their story, their essence. I’ve learned to slow down, to truly see people, and to create from a place of intention and care.
That experience gave my work a deeper meaning. It reminded me that what we create as artists can carry a legacy far beyond the moment it was captured – and that is something I hold with great responsibility and gratitude every single day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a fine art and commercial portrait photographer based in San Antonio, Texas. Originally from Slovakia, I began my journey in fashion and beauty photography before moving to the United States in 2013 and building my own studio.
Over time, my work evolved into something more meaningful. Today, I specialize in maternity, motherhood, and portrait photography, creating timeless, emotional images that go beyond appearance and capture presence, connection, and story.
What sets my work apart is the intention behind it. I don’t see photography as just a service – I create an experience where people can slow down, feel seen, and reconnect with themselves. Many of my clients come to me during important life moments, and I approach each session with care, depth, and purpose.
In addition to client work, I design digital backdrops and artistic concepts used by photographers worldwide, allowing my creativity to extend beyond my own studio.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me and the relationships we build over time. Many return to document different chapters of their lives, and that connection is incredibly meaningful to me.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe one of the most important things society can do to support artists and creatives is to truly recognize the value behind what we create.
In today’s fast-paced digital world, art is often consumed quickly and quietly. A simple gesture, giving credit, sharing someone’s work, or even saying “thank you”, can make a meaningful difference. Behind every image, design, or piece of art, there are hours of thought, emotion, and dedication that often go unseen.
Supporting creatives doesn’t always have to be financial. It can be as simple as acknowledging their work, respecting their time, and understanding that what they create holds both emotional and professional value.
I also believe we need to shift the mindset that creative work is “easy” or secondary. Art shapes how we see the world, how we feel, and how we connect with one another. It deserves the same level of respect as any other profession.
When artists feel seen and appreciated, they create from a more inspired place, and that energy naturally contributes to a more beautiful, thoughtful, and connected society.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are an interesting concept, especially in how they introduced new ways for digital artists to sell and protect their work. I appreciate the idea of giving creators more ownership and control in a space where digital art is often shared without credit or compensation.
At the same time, I believe the long-term value of any artwork, whether physical or digital, comes down to the emotional connection it creates, not just the technology behind it.
Personally, I’m more focused on creating meaningful, lasting work and building real connections with my clients and audience. I see NFTs as an evolving space, and it will be interesting to see how it continues to develop in a way that truly supports artists.
