We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsea Oats. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsea below.
Alright, Chelsea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My husband and I have been rescuing and fostering since early 2020 when we found our first little rescue kitten. We ended up naming him Grasyon. He made such an impact on our lives and hearts in the few months that we had him that it felt as though we had a hole in our family when we had to put him to sleep. We began to foster kittens and had litter after litter because we saw the need for it. We had our vey first foster dog in December of 2021. We had a few foster dogs and puppies at our old house, but the ‘magic’ really happened when we moved to our current home. The very first day we were moving our belongings over we found a litter of kittens. We trapped them over the course of moving in. After talking with our neighbors we discovered that the new little quaint country road we just moved to was a dumping area. After two months and those kittens being adopted the first dog was dumped. We took him in and were able to adopt him out through a local rescue. And ever since then it has just been dog after cat after puppy after kitten after litter after litter. We fostered under two wonderful rescues during that time. Due to the frequency of dumping and the need for more we decided to take the jump and start our own Animal Rescue. January 2026 we became a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit. Thus born Grayson’s Rescue.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hi, my name is Chelsea! I’ve always been an animal lover. Growing up, my family had all kinds of animals, so you could say I was born into it. From a young age, I felt a strong pull to help any animal in need, I was always trying to “rescue” them whenever I could (with my parents’ approval, of course).
As I got older, I realized that working with animals wasn’t just a passion, it was my calling. I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping and rescuing them. One of my biggest dreams has always been to create a rescue ranch where animals can feel safe, cared for, and loved.
When I began grooming, I made it a priority to help animals beyond just regular appointments. I sought out opportunities to assist with grooming neglected animals and supporting rescue efforts whenever possible. That experience opened my eyes even more to the level of need in the community.
Once we decided to start our own rescue, I quickly saw just how many people were reaching out for help, whether it was for strays, urgent situations, or animals in need of care. It made it clear that this work is not only important, but deeply needed.
We have big goals for our rescue and the programs we hope to build. Our mission is to support both the community and animals in need, and to make a lasting difference, one life at a time.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Genuineness, just being myself, has always been at the heart of everything I do. I’ve always had a deep passion for helping others, especially animals. Over the years, building a strong reputation within the grooming and dog community has played a huge role in jumpstarting our rescue.
The connections we’ve cultivated along the way have been incredibly valuable. They’ve helped us find fosters, recruit dedicated volunteers, and spread the word about our mission through social media and word of mouth. That support system has been essential in allowing us to grow and continue helping animals in need.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that I can’t do everything on my own. As a business owner, I’ve struggled with trying to take on too much, which often leads to burnout.
That realization actually led to some very exciting news that I’m currently working on.
Here’s the backstory: I was hosting an adoption event and looking for another rescue to partner with. I reached out to a local rescue, and they were immediately interested. As the founder and I started talking, we quickly realized we had a lot in common, not only in our personal journeys, but also in how we were both running our rescues solo.
The more we talked, the more it became clear that we share the same values and vision, and that we both needed support. From there, the idea naturally grew into something bigger.
We’ve decided to merge our rescues and become one. We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter and what we’ll be able to accomplish by combining our experience, passion, and ideas. Together, we know we can make an even greater impact.
