We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joseph Bilotta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy running your own firm? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes. Yes, as an attorney work never ends. I have clients email and call after “normal” business hours and on weekends. I am also thinking about and preparing for upcoming hearings and trials 24/7.

Joseph, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Other than playing center field for the Yankees or being an actor, being a trial lawyer puts me on a stage and allows me to help people on need. After law school, one of my professors recommended me for a job with a litigation firm on Park Avenue in Manhattan. I was in court immediately and obtained great experience litigating personal injury, criminal, family law and all types of civil cases in state and federal court. That gave me the confidence and ability to handle any type of case.
I grew up in a blue collar family. My father was a former Marine who worked construction and my mom worked in a school cafeteria. Neither went to high school. I enjoy fighting like a wolverine for everyday people. We treat them like family.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I always return client calls and emails. We also send out birthday emails to former clients.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I fight just as hard for the client who was not given their last $500.00 paycheck as the client who has a case valued at millions of dollars.
