We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacky Tran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jacky, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned everything through Youtube. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t change a thing. The skills that are essential to learning music is knowing how rhythm, and melody operate. My ego stood in the way of me learning more

My name is theJACKYTRAN and I am a DJ from Atlanta. I do whatever necessary to get the show on the road for my clients. Entertainment within Atlanta needs a revamp. Right now we’re a scrappy place with a lot of heart and vibe. It needs professionalism with the warmth of the south. That’s what I provide.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to see how big I can get. There is no exact vision up ahead, I am purely focused on the now.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn to care about what people think. I used to care a lot about what people said, because I like to help people and conflict resolve. I was a very helpful person and I always thought that different perspectives were a good thing, and they are to a point. I had to learn through many chapters in my life that perspective is good but the one that is most important is my own.
