We recently connected with Nicole Powers and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents did so many things right in my upbringing. I am the oldest child of three and I am a highly motivated, driven person. I owe much of my drive and my success to my parents. My dad was an ENT physician and facial plastic surgeon who owned his medical practice in the town where I grew up and continue to live, Dubuque, Iowa. I always admired his work ethic and drive. He had a demanding work schedule and was on-call often but still showed up to our events and was involved in our lives. My mom was a Registered Nurse who also has an entrepreneurial side with owning a coffee shop and eventually starting the skin care side of things in my dad’s medical practice. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and to never give up. They have helped instill confidence in me that has led to jobs and opportunities I would’ve not otherwise had. They are always my biggest fans and cheerleaders! They have also been a constant source of wisdom and have talked me off the ledge many times when I just want to quit. I am so grateful for my parents. I would not be where I am today without their love and guidance.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner with a background in cardiology, pain management and aesthetics. I recently opened my own medical aesthetics and wellness practice in September 2025 called Allure Aesthetics + Wellness. I provide a variety of services including Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling and IV infusions.
Having grown up with both my parents in the medical aesthetics industry, it has been a long-standing interest and passion of mine. Our dinner conversations often revolved around these topics and my mom was always encouraging me to try new skin care products and various procedures to enhance my skin. I finally took the leap to get certified as an aesthetic injector in June 2024 and got a job a local medical aesthetics practice. Unfortunately, that job did not work out as I had hoped which is what led me to open my own practice.
I am so passionate about what I do, I love helping people look and feel their best from the inside out whether that is through enhancing their facial features and skin or improving their health and wellness. I think what sets me apart is me being me. I connect to people very easily, I am never judgmental and I like to think of every patient as my friend. I pride myself on never upselling and being very honest with my patients about what is worth their money and what is not.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am a very resilient person and that has been demonstrated to me, especially most recently. I ended up receiving a lawsuit from my former employer for breaching a non-compete agreement about 4 months after I opened my practice. With that, they also filed a temporary injunction to shut my business down in the location I was practicing. It took 2 months from the time of the initial court hearings to the injunction verdict. During this time, I was able to continue seeing patients and building a practice, not knowing what the outcome would be. Then I got the call from my attorney, the judge had granted the temporary injunction and I had to close my practice immediately. As you can imagine, this was devastating news and not something I was prepared for in any capacity. I had two choices, either quit entirely or move outside the 25 mile radius that was in the agreement. I found this news out on a Friday. I knew right away that I was going to relocate, I was not willing to quit entirely. The following Monday I went and looked at a few places to rent outside the 25 mile radius and then quickly signed a lease and took possession of my new space later that week. I am so passionate about what I do but also think I am very talented and I was not willing to give up my dreams. I know this experience has already made me a stronger, more resilient person and I also believe everything happens for a reason. I believe there is something greater in store for me and this all had to happen for me to live up to my fullest potential.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes I would 100% choose the same profession and the same specialty. I love being a nurse and love being a Nurse Practitioner. I love helping people and interacting with people on a very personal level. It has been a great career path for me and I can’t imagine doing anything else. Every day is different and there are so many opportunities within nursing.
