We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa Walke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Six years ago, I took the biggest risk of my life—I opened my own beauty studio.
It happened in what I can only describe as the perfect storm. In the middle of the pandemic, I had just been laid off. Businesses everywhere were shutting their doors, and I kept thinking… who is going to hire an esthetician when the world is in quarantine?
With all that uncertainty, I started questioning everything. Should I have gone to college? Chosen a more “stable” career? Did I make the wrong decision?
But in the middle of that fear, I came back to my why.
I thought about the incredible people I’ve met along this journey. The moments that mattered—like giving a breast cancer survivor her brows back, or helping a client finally feel confident in her skin again. Those transformations go far beyond beauty… they’re deeply personal.
That’s when it clicked for me: this isn’t just what I do—it’s what I’m called to do.
So instead of waiting for an opportunity, I created one. I took everything I had, invested it into myself, and built Blyss Beauty from the ground up.
And I’m so grateful I did.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
From a young age, I was completely obsessed with all things beauty. I never went to school without my skincare done, my brows filled, and my lash strips on—it was already more than a routine, it was a passion.
After graduating high school, I enrolled in esthetics school. From there, I continued investing in my education, mastering advanced skills like microblading, semi-permanent makeup, and lash extensions while working with prestigious brands and spas along the way.
There was a time when I felt the pressure to “niche down”… but that never felt true to me. I’ve always loved doing it all—brows, lashes, skin. I love being the one artist my clients can trust with every part of their beauty routine.
What I value most are the relationships built along the way. These aren’t just appointments—they turn into lifelong connections that feel like family.
Now, after a decade in this industry, I can confidently say I’ve mastered my craft—but what truly sets Blyss Beauty apart goes beyond skill. It’s our approach, our attention to detail, and the level of care we put into every single client experience.
Anyone can learn how to perform a service—but bringing a client’s vision to life, and elevating it beyond what they imagined, takes intuition, experience, and heart.
At Blyss, every client knows they’re stepping into a space where they’re cared for, pampered, and, most importantly… at home.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to unlearn was my relationship with money.
Since I was 18, I’ve been financially independent. I may have been living paycheck to paycheck at times, but I always had my own place, paid my bills, and did my best to save whatever I could. To me, saving meant security.
But when I opened my business, that mindset started to feel limiting.
I found myself constantly worrying—how will I cover my expenses? How will I grow? How will I scale?
We’re taught that saving money is always the “right” thing to do… but as a business owner, I’ve learned that’s not always what moves you forward. Growth requires a different mindset. It requires trust, strategy, and sometimes taking risks before you feel ready.
“Scared money doesn’t make money” became more than just a quote to me—it became a shift.
I started studying successful entrepreneurs and how they approached money. I immersed myself in podcasts and books like Think and Grow Rich and How Successful People Think. And slowly, everything changed.
I went from feeling anxious about money to feeling empowered by it.
I became confident in reinvesting into my business, making bigger moves, and trusting that if money was ever the thing standing between me and the next level—it wasn’t a dead end, just a problem I was capable of solving.
That shift didn’t just grow my business… it changed the way I see what’s possible.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I’ve never approached growing my clientele as a “strategy.” To me, that always felt impersonal—and temporary.
Instead, I focused on understanding why my clients kept coming back.
Even as a beginner, I paid close attention to each client’s individual style and energy. I learned how to truly see them—so I could create results that felt aligned, natural, and exactly how they envisioned themselves.
It was never just about the service. It was about making my clients feel heard, understood, and cared for—while tailoring my technique to their unique goals.
And just as important was the experience itself.
I learned to read the room—when a client needed to vent, and when they needed a quiet space to unwind and recharge. Because what they’re investing in goes far beyond beauty… it’s a feeling.
Every detail matters. And when every detail is intentional, trust is built naturally.
That trust is what turns first-time clients into long-term relationships—and those relationships into referrals to friends, family, and beyond.
Today, I can proudly say many of my clients have been with me for 6+ years.
Of course, tools like social media are incredibly powerful for growth. But at the end of the day, the most effective “strategy” will always be mastering what you do—and how you make people feel while doing it.
