We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rikki Sushaun. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rikki below.
Rikki , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
There’s always a part of you when you get older for life that makes you want to reflect and turn back time cuz maybe things would have turned out differently. And to certain extent that would be true but would it be better, well no one would ever know.
I remember being a fresh 18 year old and College English class. I’d always love to write poetry and songs and stories, so I figured English class would be a breeze. Now to this day I don’t know if I was being discriminated against or maybe the teacher / Professor just didn’t like me, but after turning in a paper assignment and doing some tutoring she pulled me outside of the class told me that I would never have a shot at completing or passing this class and that I should just pick up my belongings and see myself out. I was absolutely shocked and stunned by this but I was so young so naive it had so little self-esteem that I did exactly that. I went back in the classroom, didn’t say a word to any of my classmates, gathered my belongings and walked out of college. That was when I decided that I would just do what my heart was telling me to do which was play music write music and sing.
I started off playing every open mic Jam night I could find around town. Meeting people making connections along the way. I started booking small gigs with a microphone and amp and a guitar. But of course I wasn’t making enough money to pay the bills.
Years went by and I was still pursuing music but I had also started working in restaurants, which I was already accustomed to. Around the year 2011 I decided to go back to college and pursue arts, culinary arts. I became a catering Chef after graduation and I’ve been very fulfilled in that profession. I’ve course did not give up on the music. Is that I picked up my acting chops along with my Musical studies and became a musical theater actor. I started performing and independent films and theater performances well also continuing my art as a culinarian.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an artist performer. I presume many feels of Art because in reality there is no genres of anything. It’s what you like or what you don’t like. I love music and singing and creating. I believe in expressing oneself through the art that flows within us. Whether it’s vocally or visually, dancing or drawing cooking or design!
I am most proud of my determination. It’s really hard to know that the thing you were most passionate about may not necessarily be the thing that makes the most money or gets the most credibility. But I believe living this life is about understanding self and understanding that what matters the most to you is really all that matters in general.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Listen, I never really understood nfts to begin with lol. I do believe they are very cool art form of digital making and from that standpoint I don’t find anything wrong with them I think they’re beautiful creations. However the fact that people have the ability to steal your art in broad daylight it had no consequences behind it seems like a very flawed system and I think the world figured that out after the whole Seth Green incident.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Happiness, Joy, self-assurance. These are the things I wake up in the morning for. Yes money is nice yes appreciation of your audience is nice but who are you when you look in the mirror when you see that reflection staring back at you. If you and produce a silly little song for your nephew with no intentions except for making him laugh and smile what does it matter if the whole rest of the world appreciates it as well you did it for your family.
