We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful MaLLy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with MaLLy below.
MaLLy, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
As an independent artist, I am committed to providing the best possible experience for everyone who supports my work. To show my appreciation for someone’s investment in my business, I always include a personalized, handwritten note with their items. Whether this is their first purchase or your 10th, you better believe their package will come with a message in it because the support is truly valued.
Leaving a positive and lasting impression with everyone I connect with is very important to me. It could be my last opportunity to speak to a supporter for months until my next drop.
Another way I’ve tried to show appreciation for fans/supporters is by dropping a name or two in the liner notes of my albums, especially if the interaction impacted me greatly. It’s the little things that go a long way.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, I specialize in songwriting, artist career consulting, and arts education. My journey began with a lifelong passion for dancing, singing, performing and eventually finding my professional voice and purpose within Hip-Hop music and culture. Yeah, that was meant to happen!
Over the years, I have honed my craft as an MC and songwriter, releasing various projects ranging from mixtapes to full-length albums. My experience includes extensive time in the studio as well as performing on local, national, and international stages as a touring musician. I truly believe that being a songwriter and MC opened a myriad of doors for me to expand my skill set and network. Additionally, in my past life in corporate america as an analyst, it provided me the opportunity to strengthen my business acumen, my technical and communication skills, and to always give it your all because everyone is taking notes on your art, what you said yesterday and today, how you treat people etc. I’ve lived a dynamic life and it’s informed my mindset and drive to be the best at whatever I do.
More recently, I have expanded my focus to serve as an Artist Career Consultant. In this role, I guide both emerging and veteran musicians in growing their businesses by covering essential topics such as career planning, project management, social media strategy, and revenue stream development. I find it incredibly energizing to help dedicated artists apply these insights to further their careers. Additionally, I absolutely love hearing firsthand from the artists how helpful the information is because it isn’t everyday someone is willing to sit down with you and help you develop a path to success. I love to see it.
If you’re a fan of independent Hip-Hop music, don’t feel shy about heading over to mallympls.com to learn about me, my experiences and checking out the music and the videos. I’m easy to get in touch with and always available to talk and share knowledge with anyone eager to collborate.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that consistent branding, meaningful messaging, and high-quality musical releases have been instrumental in building and solidifying my reputation as both an artist and a consultant.
Before anything else, it is essential to secure buy-in before a supporter or potential client decides to make a purchase or work with you. I truly feel that folks often seek to connect with your work (and you) on both an emotional and intellectual level.
One thing I’m always sharing with folks is: “No matter what, always do good business with those you work with. Be honest, communicate, be respectful and be kind.” Being someone that’s easy to work with is great to work with regardless of talent level, intelligence or the dollar amount. Doing great work and good business is essential.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
That is a great question. I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having the freedom to dream, openly explore my voice and tell my story exactly how I want to without any limitations.
I also love being able to share information and wisdom with others in hopes that they can use it to level up.
