We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenyada Cobbins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenyada below.
Kenyada , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Hmm… the story about my first client. I remember vividly the day I received my first booking, it was so exciting. I first came up with the idea to decorate for intimate events in October of 2023, just in time for Sweetest Day. Honestly, I went about it a little impulsively. I had bought an ebook about the basics of the business and just jumped right in.
I decided to post on social media about the services I would be offering, and to help gain my first client I did a raffle for a free room setup. The pictures I used for the post weren’t my work, but they showed the kind of service I planned to provide. The requirements were simple: like, comment, and share the post to be entered into the drawing. I gave everyone a week to participate, and then I closed the raffle.
To keep everything fair, I wrote everyone’s name down during a live stream and put them in a bucket so people could see that it was legit. About 70 people ended up entering, and I finally picked the winner. Unfortunately, the winner didn’t accept the services. In that moment, I started feeling like maybe nobody would actually want to book me, especially since someone didn’t even want the service for free.
But a couple of days later, a woman reached out asking if I could decorate for her spouse and create something special for them. Of course I told her yes without hesitation. I charged her $100 since she had already ordered the materials herself. Truthfully, I didn’t really know exactly what I was doing yet, I just knew I had to get it done.
My best friend came to the location and helped me decorate that day. When we put our heads together, we figured it out and created a really special night for the couple. They were so pleased with the work we did, and that moment restored the faith I had when I first decided to start my business.

Kenyada , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a 26 year old woman from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and this has pretty much been home my whole life. I plan on staying… maybe! Ever since I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to run my own business, I just never knew what kind. Funny enough, the way I figured it out was completely unexpected.
About two months before I started my business, I went through a major heartbreak. At the time it hurt, but honestly, it pushed me in the direction I needed. I’m actually grateful it happened, because it gave me the motivation to finally take a chance on myself.
Now, I’m a romantic event planner. I decorate for intimate, romantic occasions and offer things like floral bouquets and treats. The problem I solve is simple: I bring people’s romantic ideas to life. Every client who trusts me with their moment means a lot, and I always make sure the job gets done beautifully.
Any potential client should know that I will deliver by any means necessary. I’m also building a team to keep everything running smoothly as my business grows.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve used to grow my clientele has been consistently showcasing my work and creating genuine connections with my audience. Because my business is visually driven, I post quality photos and videos of my setups, behind the scenes moments, and client reactions across social media. This helps potential clients see my style, my creativity, and the level of detail I put into every event.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I stay connected by following up, staying active on social media, and offering perks for returning clients. I build loyalty by making every client feel valued and appreciated.
