Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francesca Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Francesca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I started modeling when I was 18 years old and by age 30, I wanted to retire. I was still interested in being in the entertainment industry, but didn’t have an idea of what I wanted to do. I always had an interest in doing photography, so I started going to different places and taking photos of buildings and scenery. I knew I specifically wanted to be a concert photographer, so I did a Google search on how to get into the industry. I read an article that said the best way to become a concert photographer was to be associated with a blog or news company. Since I didn’t have any experience, I decided to come up with my own entertainment news company. I tried to figure out a catchy name, so I started writing down words and ended up writing down “fabulous” and “entertainment.” I put the two words together and came up with FABUtainment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the CEO and founder of FABUtainment, a celebrity entertainment news website and media production company. I got my start in the industry by photographing concerts and events, and eventually ended up working closely with Hot 103 Jamz under the guidance of their Programming Director, Myron Fears, which led me to many opportunities in the entertainment industry.
FABUtainment is not only celebrity entertainment news, but also a media production company that provides photography and videography services through our company, FABUtography. In Kansas City, sometimes it is difficult to find a company that provides media services and FABUtainment wants to be the company that fills the void. We are most proud of our ability to provide quality entertainment and media services to our clients. We want our clients to know that we have a team and staff of individuals who provide quality media services, as well as guidance and consultation to individuals who are seeking advice on how to start their business or career in media-related disciplines.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think many people struggle to understand the hard work that goes into running a media company. I may post photos of myself with celebrities, such as Cardi B and En Vogue, and it gains likes on social media, and people comment and say “If you ever need an assistant let me know! You know a lot of celebrities!” Yes, it is exciting to meet celebrities, but my main focus when covering events and conducting celebrity interviews is content. It is a lot of hard work to be the photographer, videographer, and CEO all at the same time. It is important to understand that gathering content for my brand is my number one priority, and the priority for anyone who wants to work for FABUtainment in the future. It is important to enjoy yourself when interacting with celebrities, but more important to remember to focus on creating content for the brand.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The quote that inspires me the most is “You will hear 1000 no’s before you hear one yes.” There were many times where I applied to do media coverage of events and award shows, such as the Grammy’s, Oscars, Emmy’s, etc., and still after 6 years, have been denied. However, within that 6 years, I have been approved for other awards shows, runway shows, concerts, and events. The moral of the story is to always keep going, keep grinding no matter what happens. Any event I cover is a stepping stone to a bigger event. I appreciate everyone who has given me an opportunity to showcase my talent as a photographer.
