Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cheri Glover. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cheri, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One meaningful project that I’ve worked on was a fundraiser event I created called the Beauty Empowerment Workshop. This event was so meaningful because I was collecting funds to give to MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. I chose this hospital because the staff helps families who have loved ones with critical needs. At birth, I was born at 24 weeks. Due to being premature, I was one pound and twelve ounces.
I was born in one hospital. However, I was rushed to another hospital to get the care that I needed. This is why I chose to donate the funds to the children’s hospital. I wanted to help the families that had similar experiences with their loved ones.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since I was 10 years old, I thought about becoming a model. However, at that time I didn’t think it was possible. However, when I got older, I had to get open-heart surgery and that changed the course of my life. After I had surgery at age 27, it gave me the courage to revisit the desire to model. Therefore, at age 35 I was in my first fashion show, which was during New York Fashion Week. Within a few years of modeling, I created a brand called The Model Motivator. Since then, the brand has evolved into a book and a small business.
My book is called The Model Motivator: One Woman’s Journey Past the Runway. The book is a faith-filled memoir. It covers my story of how I became a model and a heart disease survivor. My desire is to give people hope to pursue their dreams and let go of fear.
The small business I started is called The Model Motivator Consulting & Training Services. Within the business, I am offering trainings and workshops that gives education to aspiring creatives entering the field of fashion. Lastly, modeling has also catapulted me into the space of speaking. I became a Public Speaker. I have spoken at different events, such as Women’s Conferences and Faith-Based settings.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is trying to move at a fast pace. A little over a year ago, I announced that I was going to start a podcast. However, I made the announcement when I didn’t know how to get it started. I eventually learned what to do, but that was half the battle. Fast forward, I am still trying to get the podcast up and running because I had to make some changes. The moral of the story is make sure you are prepared for what you are trying to produce. Don’t try to move so fast because you see others doing what you want to do. Take the time to get the training to become successful.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A few years ago, I moved to a different state. This came as a surprise because at the beginning of that year, moving was not a thougtht tin my mind. When I moved, I literally started all over again. I had to find a new job, I had to make new friends, and I had to find new extra-curricular activities. The move itself was daunting. However, I can honestly say the move was necessary and a blessing in disguise. God has opened many doors that I couldn’t imagine being opened before. I found a better job, I made new friends, and I am involved in new extra-curricular activities. I am thankful and blessed in the move. I am succeeding and thriving.
