We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Essence Henderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Essence , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
When I launched E4Essentials, it was a reality check. Despite a decade of experience starting with PrettyNPinks at 16, my first week was met with total silence—not a single sale. Then, in week two, the floodgates opened to 6-10 orders a day. What sounds like a dream was actually a breaking point; between my corporate career, family life, and global orders coming in, I was physically unable to keep up. The “handbook” way of doing things failed me, and I was drowning in the manual hustle.
Instead of looking for a corporate solution, I turned to the people I trusted most: my family. We ignored the standard business guides and built our own raw, functional systems to survive the growth. We turned my home into a fulfillment center and worked late into the night to bridge the gap. That collective effort is exactly how we scaled to 10+ countries in our first year. It taught me that real success isn’t a solo act; it’s about having a circle that will step into the trenches with you when the systems break.

Essence , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those just meeting me, I am the founder and visionary behind E4Essentials Skincare and the creator of the digital series Building The Brand by Essence Tvv. My journey has always been driven by a passion for quality and an eye for a clean, luxury aesthetic. I didn’t just want to enter the beauty and business space; I wanted to redefine what it looks like to build an empire with intention.
What sets my brand apart is the marriage of substance and style. Many brands offer one or the other, but I focus on the “Classy Feminine CEO” aesthetic—soft neutral tones, luxury feel, and high-level execution. I solve the “gatekeeping” problem in the industry by being transparent about the building process. Whether it’s hosting brand events in cities like Chicago and Indianapolis or sharing my strategy online, I provide a roadmap that is as beautiful as it is functional.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
As I grew within the business industry, I realized that your network is your net worth. I started putting myself in rooms with investors and industry leaders, not just to ask for funding, but to learn how they think. I attended networking events, hosted brand launches in St. Louis and Indiana, and built relationships that changed my perspective on scale. These meetings taught me that investors don’t just invest in products; they invest in visionaries who understand the business side as much as the creative side.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience wasn’t an overnight success for me; it was a decade in the making. My journey started at just 16 years old with my very first business, PrettyNPinks. Starting that young was my “digital playground”—it’s where I learned how to identify a target audience, speak their language, and understand what makes people click “buy.”
As I grew, my brands evolved with me. From PrettyNPinks to Essences Essential, and eventually into the media space with Essence Tvv, I stayed hyper-focused on a specific niche: the woman who values elegance, quality, and a “Classy Feminine CEO” lifestyle. By the time I launched E4Essentials Skincare, I wasn’t just guessing; I was executing a proven blueprint.
The result of that focus was explosive. Within the very first year of E4Essentials, we went global, shipping to over 10 different countries. That reach didn’t happen by accident—it happened because I treated my social media like a high-end storefront. By maintaining a clean, luxury aesthetic and showing the authentic “build” of the brand, I created a product that resonated across borders.
