We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mo Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mo below.
Mo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I started my business with a risk. I left my 9-5 job with just enough money to last me 1.5 months. No savings. No concrete business plan. Just the intuitive feeling and KNOWING that it was time to take the leap. I believe we’ve been told that it’s the “smart” thing to do- to always have a plan and know exactly how something should go and work out. I believe it’s a balance. It’s a great feeling and definitely helpful to have an idea of how I want an event to go – or what I might want to do in the next 3 months. It’s completely dry, boring and lack luster to leave the Universe out of the picture. When we plan out every detail- we leave zero space for spontaneity and miracles! Part of what I’ve learned over the last 5.5 years is that by leaving space for magic- life is more fun, magical and leaves me feeling more fulfilled than I’ve ever experienced. I believe in taking intuitive risks daily- and I’ve had to work with my nervous system to relax into this flow of trust and surrender. It’s taken time and is 100% worth it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am driven to create a movement where you are empowered and encouraged to BE YOU at the deepest level. By embracing our true selves I believe we can find the healing, peace and deep connection that everyone is yearning for in the world.
I am an Energy Healer, Speaker, Coach, Retreat Facilitator and Podcast Host- they call me a “Pillar of Light”. I believe in magic, the power of presence, intention and intuition. Part of the magic is the energy and presence I bring to the room- my intention is to help you take that next step… or leap, with confidence!
I was the Director of Operations for a Real Estate team out of Bothell, WA from 2012-2020. My job involved recruiting, screening, hiring, marketing/PR, client events, team events, culture, podcast production and overall strategic thinking with the CEO. This is where I discovered that I knew how to run a small business!
Prior to my time in Real Estate, I was the Docent Program Coordinator at the Seattle Art Museum for 5 years and Assistant Volleyball Coach for Northwest University in Kirkland. I have my Masters in Social Work with a focus on administration, and am an adamant believer in human potential.
It was during my time in the Real Estate Industry where I realized that I was more capable than I thought. I began to understand that certain structures in the US have been created to make us believe we can’t access them- to limit us. When the pandemic hit and we all started working from home- I quickly realized how much I LOVED it. I loved having more space and time for myself- and I loved sitting in my own energy without the impact of others. I had needed this for a long time- to learn how to understand and feel what belonged to me (energetically) vs others.
It was around May 2020 when I had the conversation with my boss- and it was completely unplanned. It just came out of my mouth, “Maybe it’s time for me leave….”. I had the feeling that if I continued to stay- I would start to build resentment of my team.
While in Real Estate I started teaching, speaking and coaching- and I loved it! I knew that I wanted to do more of this- and so I started “I love it when” with that in mind. I had been teaching and speaking for 8 years at that point- and I had been coaching for probably 4-5. I decided that I would start with coaching full time and see what other opportunities popped up for me along the way.
5 and a half years later and I offer:
-1 to 1 Coaching for Business and Personal Development
-Small Group Coaching for Business and Personal Development
-Corporate Workshops with themes around presence, energy, intuitive leadership and communication
-Keynote Speaker for conferences and events
-Retreats for personal and spiritual growth
-Energy Healing Sessions online and in person using Reiki and the Emotion Code modalities
Clients come to me when they feel like something is missing or they’re feeling stuck and stagnant in life. I LOVE helping you discover and gain clarity on what sparks joy for you- and then the steps to take to bring you back into alignment with what your soul truly yearns for.
My brand is all about love, education and intuition.
I believe that when we all feel safe to truly be ourselves- we’ll find a much more loving and peaceful world around us.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The story that comes to mind is one that is still currently unfolding. I have chosen to run a business from my intuition- which means it doesn’t always make logical sense- and this is very much the opposite of how we’ve been taught to work and create. There have been many months in the 5+ years that I’ve been operating where I haven’t known where or how I will make the money to pay my bills next month- and yet, it always works out. During this process I’ve had to learn how to regulate my nervous system- and live in the unknown space. Coming from someone who used to be an excellent Executive Assistant and over planner- this has been a huge challenge. I think this is part of what I’m meant to teach people- how to become more comfortable in the discomfort of the unknown. In the unknown there is a LOT of opportunity for joy and spontaneous connection- it’s in that space where we co-create and allow the Universe to collaborate.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started building a social media presence when I was working on a Real Estate team. I was the Director of Operations for 8 years prior to starting my company. This gave me the opportunity to learn a LOT about how to market and sell. My social media presence has always been about sharing who I am as a person first- then offering what I might be selling. This is how I have always approached marketing myself- people want to know WHY they should buy from you- they usually already know WHAT you’re selling. In the beginning I went live on Facebook and Instagram as often as I could- usually weekly to begin with. I created all sorts of fun campaigns/ideas like “Mondays with Mo” where I would hop on Instagram and interview someone every Monday at noon. Make it fun, make it real- and do not overcomplicate it. Share about yourself, your energy and why you do what you do! In the beginning I recommend focusing your energy on 1 platform- don’t try to do it all.
