We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meyer Gray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meyer, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Risk vs reward-starting any new business always has the question behind it of what is the risk vs the reward. No matter how much research you do or how versed you are in the topic, you’ll always have the risk of jumping in and taking a chance. We get one life and I feel like if you have a solid idea that keeps tugging at you and it’s something you’re passionate about, you should take the risk. Of course do your due diligence to ensure that the reward supports the risk but one thing that’ll keep you going whether you’re at rock bottom or a mountain top is the passion and drive for doing what you love.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My coffee shop is western/cowboy inspired; I grew up riding horses and coffee is what gets me going everyday so I wanted to curate something that blended the two. The art of good espresso is a niche that takes a lot of research, trial and error, I wanted to create a space where we serve specialty unique espresso based drinks the cowboy way! I want our customers to know that we source majority of what use to make their drinks locally (local roaster, local milk, local honey, locally made merch etc) and every drink we serve has a lot of love and care poured into it!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media is a major outlet for us to reach new faces everyday. It’s the world we live in now and it’s free (most of the time). We try to make funny but also informative content for current and new customers!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I truly have the best team of baristas. They all have their strong suits that make our team very balanced, they’re all kind and welcoming to customers, reliable and fun to be around. As the boss/owner I do my best to lay out ground boundaries but otherwise I allow to work and get their flow the way they feel most comfortable. I try to be a “cool boss” and thankfully none of them have really put me in a position to have to be very stern or set strict boundaries.
