We were lucky to catch up with Lenora Boyd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lenora , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was originally asked to help with a performance at an elementary school. The person who asked for my help never showed up, and I suddenly found myself responsible for working with the young ladies on my own. What was supposed to be a temporary situation quickly turned into something much more. Once I started coaching the girls, something special began to grow. In that moment, I realized this was more than just helping out this was something I truly loved. That experience showed me that this is what I wanted to do, and it was the moment I discovered one of my purposes. That’s where this journey truly began.

Lenora , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a survivor, and giving is one of the many ways to describe who I am. I was born in Los Angeles, California, where I was raised until the age of 12 before moving to Memphis, Tennessee. I have been married to Dwight Boyd for 39 years, and together we are blessed with two beautiful daughters and four wonderful grandchildren.
I am also a breast cancer survivor and have been cancer-free for 30 years. Life is truly a blessing, and I am honored that God has allowed me to still be here to share my gifts and mentor others who may be going through similar circumstances.
Before dedicating myself fully to mentoring and coaching, I modeled professionally for 25 years. I later spent 15 years serving in the education system, where I had the opportunity to impact the lives of many young ladies and young men. Mentorship and giving back to the community have always been passions of mine. My husband and I also own investment properties. For over 36 years, I have served others through charitable giving, scholarship opportunities, volunteer services, and mentorship.
I am also the owner and head coach of Tiger Cubs All-Stars Elite, a 30-time national winning dance team. My journey into mentoring began through my own life experiences and the valuable lessons I learned along the way. Young men and women naturally gravitated toward me for guidance, and I embraced the opportunity to pour into their lives.
Becoming a dance coach happened unexpectedly when I was left to coach a team on my own. What started as a temporary situation quickly became a passion and purpose. Through dance, I realized I could not only teach technique and chorography but also mentor and guide young people through life’s challenges.
Many of the individuals I work with come to me facing daily struggles. I provide them with real-life advice, financial help, mentorship, and encouragement. I take dancers who may begin with very little experience and help develop them into confident and advanced performers. More importantly, I strive to bring life, passion, and purpose to every individual I encounter.
The rewards of this journey have been incredible. I have witnessed many life-changing stories such as one of my dancers who went from being homeless to becoming a registered nurse, now in school to be a nurse practitioner. There are hundreds of others who have overcome challenges and gone on to become successful in their own lives.
What I am most proud of is the journey itself and the fact that God continues to allow me to be here to impact the lives of others. To potential dancers and those seeking mentorship, I want you to know that when you connect with me and commit to the process, you will come out stronger and better than when you began. However, you must be willing to do your part as well.
My Favorite Saying:
“Be someone’s strength. Be someone’s inspiration. Be someone’s reason to never give up. God is watching everything you do. Everyone has a positive purpose in life, and I most definitely have figured mine out.” – Lenora Boyd

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the opportunity to use my gift to impact the lives of others. Through dance, mentorship, and guidance, I am able to help young people discover their confidence, strength, and purpose. Watching someone come in with little experience, personal struggles, or self-doubt and then seeing them grow into a skilled dancer and a stronger individual in life is incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that my journey, my lessons, and my faith can inspire someone else to overcome challenges and succeed in life is the greatest reward for me.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was believing that everyone would support or understand my desire to help others succeed. Along my journey, I realized that not everyone wants to see you grow, and some people will say things like “you’re doing too much” or “you can’t save everybody.” While it’s true that I can’t save everyone, I will always try to make a difference where I can.
Another important lesson I learned was understanding when to step back. There are times when people simply don’t want the help being offered. As difficult and sometimes hurtful as that can be, I had to learn to take my hands off the situation and pray for them. Instead, I choose to redirect that same energy, love, and guidance toward someone who truly needs it and is ready to receive it.
