We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rick Rollenhagen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rick below.
Alright, Rick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue stone carving as my primary art form when I took a class in it back in 2002. I had originally thought I would take the class just as a diversion and never dreamed that it would end up being my primary medium.

Rick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a stone carver who makes my art and teaches in Cleveland, Ohio. I initially got into stone carving by taking a community Arts center class in it way back in 2002. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve now become quite good at carving and teach it at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to develop a new body if work in my stone carving and to continue to speak to the community about stone carving.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of doing my art is when I sell something and when I give talks about stone carving.
