We were lucky to catch up with Diego Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diego, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was just a kid, I always had an interest in movies and acting. There were times where I’d pick up my dad’s phone, and just record videos, play characters, and mimic other people. When I started getting older, throughout school, theatre arts were always my No.1 go to when it came to electives. Eventually leading me into an A/V Class where we learned how to make films. It wasn’t until I got to high school where I realized, this is what I want to be. I wanted to learn how to make movies, and I did.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Diego Rene Garcia; I am an Actor/Writer/Director and The Founder of Red Notebook Studios. I’ve been acting since middle school, however it wasn’t until years later in 2019, when I setup my Backstage account and got my first audition for a film called Mr. Franklin. To this day its one of the best times I’ve had on set, and some of the best people I have worked with.
Since then, I’ve acted in various projects from Feature to Short Film, Leads to Supporting cast. All while i’ve been building my own, film studio.
I’ve always been a storyteller at heart, and Acting is a way of storytelling for me. It’s a passion i’ve had for quite a while, that i’ve truly fallen in love with.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Long term goal is very much to be able to do this for a living. To be able to create films and stories for everyone to watch.
Short term goal is to get started on my first feature length film. Since I’ve started, I’ve personally only created short films, and I feel like I’m in the position to step to the next level, and what better to do so than start on a feature film I’ve been on/off working on for the last 6 years. It’s a massive passion project of mine that is my ultimate goal to complete.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist, is after all the work on a project is said and done. The time commitment, late nights that lead to early mornings, the stress, and the financial strain.
You sit in a room full of strangers, and they are all watching your project, and you’ve seen it hundreds of times already so your looking at the strangers, and they smile, or laugh, or cheer. They like what you’ve created, and it shows that you’ve made something well.
For me that’s a very rewarding feeling. Especially when most of my projects are very personal, and I put a lot of myself in those projects. To be accepted for my vulnerability.
