We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Denson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
FLYKONIC really came from my mindset and my upbringing. I grew up poor in South Dallas and Oak Cliff, and growing up in those environments teaches you a lot about resilience and creativity. Even though we didn’t always have much, I always had a passion for fashion and clothing. I loved the way clothes could express personality, confidence, and identity.
As I got older, I realized I never really enjoyed the idea of working a traditional 9-to-5 job. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to build something of my own. I wanted to create my own clothing and sell pieces that represented my ideas, my values, and the mindset I believed in.
Around 2013, the concept of FLYKONIC started forming. The word “fly” represents rising above circumstances, and “iconic” represents becoming legendary in your own way. When I combined those two ideas, it became more than just a clothing brand — it became a message.
I noticed that a lot of fashion brands focused mostly on hype, but I wanted to create something that represented growth, confidence, and elevation. Something that reminded people that no matter where you come from, you can rise above your situation and build something meaningful.
What excited me the most was the idea of building a brand that represents more than just clothes. FLYKONIC represents a mindset — staying humble, believing in yourself, and striving to become the best version of who you are. Coming from South Dallas and Oak Cliff and building everything from the ground up makes the brand even more meaningful to me.
For me, FLYKONIC isn’t just fashion. It’s a symbol that anyone can elevate their life and become iconic in their own story.

Brandon , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brandon Denson, founder of FLYKONIC Clothing. I grew up in South Dallas and Oak Cliff, and my upbringing played a huge role in shaping who I am today. Growing up, we didn’t always have much, but I always had big dreams and a strong passion for fashion and clothing. Even when I was young, I paid attention to style, sneakers, and how people expressed themselves through what they wore.
As I got older, I realized I didn’t enjoy the idea of living a traditional 9-to-5 life. I always had an entrepreneurial mindset and wanted to create something of my own that represented my vision and values. In 2013, I started building FLYKONIC with the goal of creating more than just a clothing brand. I wanted to build something that represented elevation, confidence, and purpose.
The name FLYKONIC represents rising above your circumstances and becoming iconic in your own way. Coming from South Dallas and Oak Cliff, I’ve seen how people can overcome challenges and still strive to be great. That message is at the core of the brand.
FLYKONIC focuses on luxury-quality streetwear and lifestyle fashion. We create premium clothing pieces designed to be timeless and expressive while still connected to street culture. Our products include apparel, fashion pieces, and collaborations that represent confidence, ambition, and individuality.
Alongside FLYKONIC, I also operate Consumers Customs Printing and Embroidery in Dallas, where we help businesses, organizations, and individuals bring their ideas to life through custom printing and embroidery. Being involved in both the fashion and printing industries allows me to not only build my own brand but also help others create theirs.
What sets FLYKONIC apart is the authenticity behind it. This brand was built from the ground up with real life experiences, passion, and persistence. It’s not just about clothing—it’s about mindset, elevation, and believing that where you start in life does not determine where you can go.
What I’m most proud of is being able to create opportunities, stay self-employed, and inspire people from my community to believe in themselves and chase their dreams. My goal is to continue growing FLYKONIC into a global brand while always staying true to the message that anyone can rise, elevate their life, and become iconic in their own story.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I didn’t come from money or a lot of resources, so I had to learn how to create opportunities for myself. Even though things weren’t always easy growing up, I always had a passion for fashion, sneakers, and clothing. That passion eventually turned into the idea of building my own brand.
One of the biggest lessons in my journey has been learning how to keep going even when things don’t happen overnight. When I first started FLYKONIC, I didn’t have a big team, investors, or a huge budget. It was just an idea, my belief in it, and a willingness to work every day to build something meaningful.
There were times when progress felt slow, times when I had to figure things out on my own, and moments where a lot of people might have given up. But I stayed consistent. I kept designing, printing, learning the business, connecting with people, and improving the brand little by little.
At the same time, I built Consumers Customs Printing and Embroidery so I could not only support my own clothing brand but also help other people create their brands and businesses. That experience taught me how important persistence and adaptability are in entrepreneurship.
What resilience means to me is believing in your vision even when the results take time. Coming from South Dallas and Oak Cliff and building my own businesses from the ground up reminds me every day that where you start in life doesn’t define where you can go. If you stay consistent, keep learning, and stay true to your purpose, you can build something that lasts.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my journey happened when I realized that building a clothing brand alone wasn’t enough—I needed to understand the production side of the industry as well. When I first started FLYKONIC, I was focused mainly on designing and selling clothing, but I quickly learned that depending on other companies for printing and production could slow down the process and limit my creativity.
That realization pushed me to make a major pivot. Instead of only focusing on the brand, I decided to learn the printing and embroidery business myself. That decision led to the creation of Consumers Customs Printing and Embroidery in Dallas.
At first, it was a learning process. I had to study the equipment, understand different printing techniques, and build relationships with customers and businesses in the community. But that pivot ended up becoming one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Not only did it give me more control over the quality and production of FLYKONIC products, it also allowed me to help other entrepreneurs, schools, and organizations bring their own ideas to life through custom printing and embroidery.
That experience taught me an important lesson about entrepreneurship—sometimes you have to adapt and expand your skills in order to grow your vision. What started as a pivot to solve a problem ended up opening another successful business and strengthening the foundation of everything I’m building.
