We recently connected with Chloe Alejandre and have shared our conversation below.
Chloe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I always knew I was meant to create. It’s a skill that came naturally to me, the same way breathing would be to the body. The number of times I would sit and draw or write with every passing hour of my youth is something I can’t even count. But what I can say is that it’s a spirit that fuels my soul and has flown through my blood for over twenty years. When I saw my favorite animated films, played my favorite video games, or read my favorite stories, I was continuously reminded that somebody had to create them. All those stories started with one person who chose to bring that passion to life. Since I was little, I wondered how I could be one of them. How could I be one of those people? It was enough of a burning question to fuel the fire in my soul, and I was determined since then to join them.

Chloe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Mexican American illustrator, 3D artist, and overall creative originating from the quaint, quiet forests of the Midwest. As a child, I was surrounded by nature, and my mom told me fantastical stories about the magic nature holds. It allowed my imagination to manifest a place of childish whimsy and wonder. Since then, I have evolved my skills to help bring life to the weirdly whimsical world that I live in through illustrative and 3D forms. Through loving playful imagery, wholesome storytelling, and silly little creatures, I focus on the sweetly surreal aspects of fantasy, nature, and imagination. I encourage viewers to take a moment to adore the beauty of nature and admire the magical world around them, as you never know what wonders you’ll find.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I don’t see the world the way most do. It makes sense, as there is only one of me with my mind. But when you are an old soul with a young heart, you feel a sense of disconnect with the minds and ideas of others. I felt this most acutely in college, when I was a young student refining my craft. I was placed amongst many colorful characters, all with their own unique ideas and views. But when certain projects were assigned, I saw many similarities in who they were and how they viewed this life and world. Much more mature, but not in a way I understood. While the mature I portrayed drew on life’s ancient beauty, wisdom, and heartfelt teachings, theirs was more modern in society. Aggressive topics, adult issues, and humor that made me seem like the strange one for seeing the world so sweetly. It’s enough to make you seem like the outsider, the one who didn’t belong. Even when certain projects were assigned, it seemed like those topics were the easiest for most to portray.
But not me. I would find a loophole to fit the requirements, but portray what was true to me. I never wanted my creations to be built on ideas that weren’t mine. I create things that bring me joy, not anger. So why would I choose the easy way that would poison me with negativity when I can endure the difficult way and fuel my mind with happiness? A dedication to being authentically me fueled my resilience. If I’m going to succeed or fail, I’m going to do it as me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is seeing the final product. It doesn’t matter what you create, whether it’s a story, drawing, sculpture, or even a piece of performing arts. When you see the final product in your hand, it’s a feeling that can only be felt in that moment. A sense of accomplishment, pride, and happiness just overtakes you. Knowing that your own two hands created something that can only come from your mind is an emotion that can never be recreated. It’s a piece of your heart and soul, now physically in this world. And when you see the way it impacts the world around you, even if it’s just one person, it becomes the spark within your heart to keep creating and fueling the passion within. Your art is not just an object; it’s a piece of you.
