We recently connected with SoulSoundz and have shared our conversation below.
SoulSoundz , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Honestly, those thoughts started for me when I was playing in church during college at Syracuse University. I was able to experience consistent income from my skill and creativity for the first time – that was literally how I paid my bills during school. As I approached the end of my undergraduate degree, I realized that I didn’t want to pursue that field actively and decided to pursue graduate work in music business. I knew that I wanted to merge my creativity with my analytical background. The graduate program showed me many avenues of the music business – an assignment from a professor lead me to Jermaine Dupri‘s book “Young Rich and Dangerous” which is where I realized I want to be a music producer and create my own label. I had no idea what the path ahead of me would entail, but I launched in with my first internship and became part of the Atlanta music community. Now almost 10 years later I’m a Grammy nominated and multi-platinum producer.

SoulSoundz , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a musician, producer, and creative strategist originally from Syracuse, New York now living and operating in the Atlanta metro area. I provide production services for major and independent artists as well as leading brands. I’ve worked with legends like Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled, developing artists like Dono and 11:11, and brands like Amazon AMP and Vox Media. I’ve also been blessed to earn multiple Billboard number one albums, Grammy nominations, and multiple gold and platinum certified albums and singles throughout my career. One of the most rewarding aspects, however, is working with young aspiring creatives and introducing them to the world of music and production.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, it’s a combination of seeing the joy people get from experiencing the music I make and being the soundtrack to their life – whether they’re singing, dancing, working out, or driving down the street. It means the world to me.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first entered the industry, I believed that the business would be fair and honorable – I learned early on that it often isn’t. You should cherish the relationships where people treat you well and do your best to be the change you wish to see – I’ve made it a point to do so.
