We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Susan Domelsmith Cabral. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Susan below.
Hi Susan, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
One of my clients is an artist, we worked together virtually on her home and studio a few years ago. She felt that her work was blocked and that she wasn’t receiving the success that she deserved. As we toured through the feng shui wealth corner of her apartment, I noticed that there was a lot of unused furniture from an unsuccessful marriage piled in that area. I advised her to clear it out as soon as possible and get rid of anything that wasn’t in alignment with her future goals. A few weeks later, she was awarded a very prestigious grant and was invited for a solo show at a world renowned museum. Her career has skyrocketed ever since.

Susan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My feng shui journey has been a long one. I started studying feng shui in 2010 during the redesign of my Brooklyn jewelry studio, and I knew immediately that feng shui was my calling in life. I connected with feng shui master William Spear, and attended his seminars while practicing intuitive training through my work in styling and NYC boutique retail management. Through interacting with the public by means of my work, I was able to notice immediate changes in both human behavior and Chi flow related to the feng shui enhancements that I was implementing. In 2018, I received certification from The New York School of Feng Shui and feng shui master Roger Green after a deep study of classical methods to build on my education in the more intuitive form school method.
By far, my most popular session is the New Home Package, where I prepare my client’s new dwellings to support them as much as possible. I do this by cleansing lingering energy from past tenants or construction with space clearing and blessing, balancing elemental support for each sector of the feng shui map called the Bagua, and aligning furnishings to lucky directions for the most auspicious outcome.
My residential, commercial and personal services are meditative and nurturing based on the client’s intentions, creating a harmonious flow that allows people to achieve their highest potential. It is so fulfilling to hear testimonials about how much has changed since a session.
I graduated from UT with degrees in Studio Art and Psychology, and I am working on furthering my therapeutic offerings with hypnotherapy. My mission is to help people thrive and heal in an efficient manner.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There are several different types of Feng Shui. The first method that I studied was the Western version. After implementing those Western practices for years, I decided to become certified in the much older Classical compass method. I learned from years of studying that the Western version was very limited in what you could do with it, plus it is about 2000 years younger than the Classical method. It took a bit of unlearning to become accustomed to orienting the Feng Shui Bagua map using a compass instead of the location of the front door, but I am very happy with my decision as the ancient method incorporates many more natural cycles, as well as timing and even astrology. I will always continue to deepen my practice with this fascinating and profound method.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This is a lesson in never giving up and being clear about what you want to bring into your life.
After I received my certification, the only Lo Pan compasses that I was able to find in English were very cheap and small. The compasses that the master I studied under designed had been out of print for years, but they were absolutely perfect. With this compass, you can orient all of the Feng Shui sectors as well as align to each client’s lucky directions. I absolutely had to have this compass. I found a second-rate version in English that someone was charging thousands of dollars for. I found many options in Chinese but I can’t read Chinese, and that would have set me back years translating the writing on the compass. I even started to design my own and was working with someone who would help me manufacture it. I was desperate.
At the end of my training, I had passed my exam with flying colors, and the Feng Shui master mentioned that he was really impressed with my work and presentation. It just so happens, a few months later, right before I began the compass manufacturing process, a past student of his reached out and wanted to gift their compass to one of his new students. He picked me as the recipient. I was floored. The compass arrived a few days later with a like-new instruction booklet. I posted the story of my compass online, and another Feng Shui master commented that I was absolutely on the right path. Validation indeed.
