We were lucky to catch up with Toya Arnold recently and have shared our conversation below.
Toya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
To be brutally honest I got my first client that wasn’t related to me personally through utilizing different social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. I generally would create t-shirts and post my work on the internet constantly even though I didn’t have many followers and felt very down on my luck nevertheless I kept posting daily and out the blue one day someone in boxed me asking if I could assist them with making twenty-five shirts for their non-profit organization that moment, I honestly start to believe more in myself because that moment opportunity actually presented itself to me. I honestly started to feel like I was accomplishing a goal I sat for myself which was landing a customer online to purchase for my business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
A little back story about I am a Licensed Manicurist in the state of Tennessee in which I specialize in Pedicuring/Footcare. I also make clothes and design t-shirts. I was inspired by my late grandmother to go to school for nails in hopes of opening a salon if I went to school and got my license but opening a salon never happened do to my own personal reason and slight change of plans, but I still have it on my heart to fulfill. I’m mainly falling in love with the creativeness of being crafty and making t-shirts. Here lately I been on another venture building a platform to create a space for my very own podcast.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is I can express what words alone can’t, I definitely see the word differently, I notice my personal growth/self-discovery, I have had a major impact on others, and the joy of being fully engaged in bring all my ideas this life.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by simply showing up every day being consistent and mainly believing I could do it. My advice to anyone starting out “NEVER GIVE UP” great things take time stay consistent and always believe something great is going to happen!
