We recently connected with Paola Evans and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Paola thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I feel very grateful for having parents that have really cheered me on to pursue a career in artistry. I grew up loving art and my hobby was sketching portraits of people. I remember as I was slouched over, in the middle of creating my portrait, either my mom or dad would glance over in pure shock. Even at times, when my drawings weren’t that great, they were still very amazed LOL. They really wanted me to put my talent to use and I eventually did with makeup artistry!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a makeup artist specializing in special event & editorial makeup. I opened my own makeup artistry business in the beginning of 2023, and it’s one of the biggest milestones of my life. Outside of my job, I am married to my soulmate, and we have 2 rescue pitbulls- Leia and Chloe. I also love to cook, and explore new local restaurants!
I want to help women over 40 to embrace a full face of glam without caring what other think! My typical clients are women who love makeup and big lashes, but feel judgement from society for “wearing too much.” I think life is too short to live life the way people expect of others. This brand makes me feel very proud as an artist, because in a way, you are healing people. I always strive to help others see their full potential (full glam lol), and enhance their beauty using seasonal color analysis- but with makeup!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Kindness will take you further than anything else. You could be the most talented artist out there, but if you treat people like you are above them, then that will really stunt your career. I think my intuition has been my best quality, really taking the time to read the room, pick up on any discomfort your client has, etc. Makeup artistry definitely requires emotional intelligence, as you’re spending an hour or more right in peoples faces.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Listing myself on Google business. Before that, I was really struggling on Instagram, burning myself out creating reels, paying ads, posting everyday. While I do get Instagram inquiries, its not as often as people think. Another thing is investing in a website, many makeup mentors will tell you it’s not necessary, but it can really help you stand out!
