We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Whitney Vieths. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Whitney below.
Whitney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Wood Acres Farm & Flowers sits on land that has been in my family for generations. My grandparents farmed it long before I ever dreamed of starting a business there. Over the years the land had been used for commercial crops, then cattle, and eventually crops again. But what I remember most about growing up there wasn’t just the farming—it was how open the land always felt. My grandparents’ home was a place where family and friends were always welcome, and people gathered there often.
After my grandparents passed, I found myself wanting to stay connected to the land. Starting a pumpkin patch was my first step toward that. My grandma was still living at the time and was a little skeptical of the idea, mostly because she worried about weeds. So I planted the patch tucked behind a wall of wild flowers so it wasn’t easily visible from the house.
She passed away before those flowers ever bloomed.
Over time I began shifting away from pumpkins and toward flowers as I learned more about the amount of spraying pumpkins required. Flowers allowed me to move toward regenerative and organic growing practices, which felt like a better way to care for the land.
What started as a small flower patch slowly grew into something bigger. I realized people didn’t just want flowers—they wanted the experience of being on a farm. Today Wood Acres has become a place where families can gather, create, and enjoy the land together, which feels like a natural continuation of the welcoming spirit my grandparents always had here.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a small agrotourism farm focused on helping people reconnect with nature, creativity, and community. Rather than traditional production farming, our farm centers around experiences that invite people onto the land.
Throughout the season we host U-pick flower days where visitors can wander the fields and harvest their own bouquets, and our flower fields also serve as a beautiful backdrop for photographers and families capturing special moments. We offer a variety of hands-on workshops for adults as well as seasonal farm camps for kids, many of which focus on nature-inspired creativity like floral design and herbal crafts.
Community is an important part of what we do, and we often collaborate with local makers, growers, and small businesses to offer unique workshops and events.
What I’m most proud of is continuing the legacy of the land while giving it a new purpose. The farm has always been a place where people gathered, and today it continues that tradition by creating opportunities for others to experience and enjoy it.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputation has grown through a combination of social media and word of mouth in our local community. I tend to share the farm in a very real and authentic way online, which allows people to follow along with what we’re actually experiencing season to season.
Once people visit the farm, word of mouth naturally spreads through friends, families, and the local community.

How did you build your audience on social media?
My audience on social media has grown slowly and organically over time. I’ve always tried to share the farm in a very real and authentic way—showing the everyday moments, the progress, and even the challenges that come with farm life. I think people connect with that because it feels genuine.
My advice for anyone just starting is to focus less on perfection and more on consistency and honesty. Share your process, tell the story behind what you’re doing, and let people feel like they’re part of the journey. That’s what tends to build the strongest connections over time.
