We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelsey Powers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelsey below.
Kelsey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I discovered the power of decluttering my home in 2016 during one of the most challenging seasons of my life. My one-year-old son had been hospitalized multiple times for asthma, my brother was battling brain cancer, and I was pregnant with my second son. I was craving control, simplicity, and calm and that’s when I was introduced to minimalism.
As I began decluttering, I quickly fell in love with the peace that comes from living with less. For nearly ten years, I’ve embraced a minimalist lifestyle and helped friends and family simplify their spaces whenever they asked. I often joked that I’d love to do this for a living but I never saw myself as an entrepreneur. I’ve always considered myself more of a support person.
After searching for local companies to work with and finding very few options, I came across a live launch for a professional decluttering certification course. I took a leap of faith, enrolled, and immersed myself in the material. While I had years of personal experience, the course gave me the structure and confidence to see that this wasn’t just something I enjoyed, it was something I was equipped and called to do.
From the moment I completed the program, everything began to fall into place. What started as a personal lifeline has grown into a business rooted in helping others experience the same peace and clarity that changed my life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been married to my husband, Joe, for nearly 15 years and am a mom to three children, ages 11, 8, and 5. I’ve lived as a minimalist for about a decade, and as a busy mom myself, I’m especially passionate about helping other moms simplify the inventory they’re managing at home; for the sake of their mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
What sets me apart is the heart behind my approach. I understand that clutter often carries a lot of guilt and shame and many women don’t realize how heavy that burden feels until they’re given permission to let it go. My goal is to provide compassionate support while guiding clients through thoughtful questions that help them identify what is truly serving them in their current season of life. From there, I create simple, sustainable systems that streamline daily routines and make their home life feel lighter and more manageable.
When we clear the clutter, our homes run more smoothly, our minds feel clearer, and we’re freed up to live more intentionally with the people and priorities we love most.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn is the idea that humility means shrinking myself.
Women are often taught to be modest, humble, and kind. These are qualities I value deeply. But I’m realizing those traits can hold us back if we misunderstand them. I had to learn that humility doesn’t mean downplaying my skills, dismissing my goals, or making myself small. It means stewarding my God-given gifts well and using them to serve others with excellence.
I’ve also learned that kindness isn’t the same as people-pleasing. True kindness is loving honesty. It’s speaking truth with grace and setting healthy boundaries so relationships can thrive.
Unlearning those misconceptions has allowed me to step confidently into my work and serve others in a more meaningful, wholehearted way.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe what has helped me build my reputation is the care and intention behind my approach. When clients invite me into their homes, they’re allowing themselves to be seen in a very vulnerable way. Many fear judgment, criticism, or being pressured to let go of things they’re not ready to part with.
From the very beginning, I’ve prioritized creating a space where clients feel safe, respected, and fully in control of their decisions. While I may not be the largest company or invest heavily in advertising, the consistent feedback I receive is that my clients don’t feel judged, not pressured, but genuinely understood and supported.
That sense of trust empowers them to take ownership of their space and confidently overcome their clutter. And I believe that trust is the foundation of a strong and lasting reputation.
