We love contrarians. We love hearing unique view points and so one of our favorite things to ask folks is for them to tell us something they believe that most people in their industry disagree with. Check out some of those responses below.

I find that in most creative careers there can be a lot of gatekeeping. Photographers not wanting to share their locations, web designers not willing to share their resources. It’s almost like there’s this scarcity mindset when it comes to a lot of creative careers. While I fully understand creatives wanting to keep their work unique and valuable, because after all, that is how we make our living, I try and see things from a different perspective. An abundance mindset. I’ve always believed in community in every aspect of my life and it’s never been more important to me than when I became an entrepreneur in a creative field. No one person will run their business or execute a wedding day or a website design like I will. Read more>>

I personally disagree with the current standard idea of “hustle culture”. The idea that if you’re not working 3 jobs with 2 side hustles then clearly you don’t want success badly enough. I think that’s a ridiculous mindset that leads to burnout and ruins what people love by making it about money. I have a full time job that pays my bills and allows me to live how I want to, and then I have a side hustle of sorts with painting shoes which I do more as a hobby that supplements my income instead of considering it as a second job that I need to invest all of my time in to be successful at. I take commissions as they come and in the down time I fill my portfolio by getting cheap thrift store shoes and painting them for content, then donating them back to the thrift stores. Read more>>

Conservation! A traditional view can still predict a well-suited future for fashion. The long conventional route may take more time than expected to get to that specific goal we have in mind, which we can ALL agree with the “old way” of things. However, why skip steps? Steps that were skipped, are now minor errors shown in work itself. As a result, it leads to the odds of longevity becoming more realistic, and that’s that shit we don’t want for any business (excuse my language, HA)! Read more>>

In the past, the financial literacy and personal finance space has been heavily occupied by coaches, gurus, and influencers who leveraged shame and blame as driving forces to push humans towards change. That never worked for me. The ‘crash budgets’ and ‘radical changes’ these coaches pushed were never sustainable for me and further harmed my relationship with money and confidence in my abilities. I knew there had to be a different way that would support me and others better. Read more>>

I hear A lot of talk from people asking why must you help the same person over and over. Is it a limit? How do you know if the person will do the right thing with funds or resources. Honestly I disagree with their thinking! Times are hard and sometimes people Can’t catch a break. See my answer is we’re not responsible for what people do or the outcome. All I can do is.. simply do! We all Are held accountable for our actions so if someone is taking advantage of what we give then that’s up to that person and God. I will help as long as someone needs it! We serve and we want moms to know that we can be counted on. Read more>>

As for the creators in small business industry I am in, my fellow creators, educators and crafters have a hard time with educating others or sharing ideas. Of course there are many who will continuously educate and share ideas. Which is always an amazing gesture. But there are some who hold on to ideas and tips to prevent others from growing in the industry. Sharing ideas and creating a space to share what one knows about being successful in this industry may not easy for some. I have learned so much as an educator that it is second nature for me to share information with others at no cost. Now, I will say there are a few things that I will hold near and dear to my heart because it took time and effort to learn those things. But sharing how to’s or helping others in the same industry should be a given and most disagree with my stance on this. Read more>>
