We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful William Merrill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with William below.
William, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I came up with the idea for my creative services business from a very personal place.
I started as an artist, just like so many others, searching for a place where my music and my vision could actually live. Growing up, I was inspired by platforms like Rap City, Hits From the Streets, 106 & Park, and The Box. Those platforms felt larger than life. They didn’t just play music videos—they validated artists. They gave people moments. They made careers feel possible. Watching that growing up planted the seed for me: I wanted a platform of my own, something that could give artists that same visibility without having to wait for permission.
At that point in my life, I didn’t have access to industry connections. What I did have was a vision and belief. I wanted creative control over my work. I wanted to tell my story the way it actually felt—not filtered through someone else’s vision. I didn’t want to keep paying people to show my vision when I knew I could learn the tools myself and build something in-house with the people I came up with—the ones who understood the struggle because they lived it with me.
As time went on, something shifted. People started paying attention—not just to the music, but to the visuals. They noticed how I framed shots, how I edited emotion into scenes, how I produced the platform as a whole. Without me fully realizing it at first, the vision began to outgrow me. Artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, and creatives started trusting me with their stories, and that trust changed everything.
I realized that what I was really doing wasn’t just content—it was documentation. I was preserving moments that might otherwise be overlooked or lost. I was showing people as they truly were, not just how the industry wanted to see them. That responsibility hit me emotionally, because I knew firsthand how much it meant to finally feel represented.
The platform evolved naturally. What began as something built for my own artistry became something much bigger than me. Now the mission is to highlight real culture—city to city—through music, fashion, sports, entrepreneurship, business, lifestyle, and more. It’s about the grind, the growth, the setbacks, and the wins. It’s about honoring where people come from while showing where they’re headed.
I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor because it was already doing what I hoped it would do—it was connecting people. The audience felt it. The community felt it. And the stories mattered. I wasn’t chasing trends or virality; I was building something rooted in truth.
This business exists because I know what it feels like to come from the bottom and want your story told the right way. And now, I get to be the one making sure those stories don’t disappear.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Iam a creative director and filmmaker who came into this industry from the artist side first. I started as a music artist, trying to figure out how to get my work seen and heard without constantly relying on “the industry.”
That journey naturally pushed me into learning how to shoot, edit, and produce my own visuals – in which quickly became a passion and eventually, a discipline. Over time, people started noticing not just the music, but the way I told stories visually and how I built platforms around them.
Today, I provide visual storytelling and creative services for artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and brands. My work spans filmmaking, video production, content creation, and platform development, with a focus on authenticity and long-term impact. I help clients clarify their story and translate who they are into visuals that actually connect.
What sets me apart is perspective. I’ve been on both sides of the camera, so I understand the vulnerability behind putting your story out into the world. I approach every project with intention, cultural awareness, and respect for the people I work with. I don’t just film quick content—I’m interested in building meaningful bodies of work.
What I’m most proud of is building a platform from the ground up that highlights real culture and being able to travel city to city. The main thing I want people to know is that I care deeply about the story. If you work with me, you’re getting more than content—you’re getting vision, trust, and a commitment to telling your story the right way.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
At the core of my creative journey, two goals drive me. First, it’s about independence. I’m building a platform that sustains me and my family, so I never have to depend on a 9-to-5 again. The freedom to control my path is crucial.
Second, I’m aiming to land a network deal—whether it’s Netflix, Hulu, ESPN or wherever….i want to showcase my full vision and produce shows that highlight talent—mine and others’.
I’m driven by both creative freedom and the vision to take what I’ve built to the biggest stages.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What really helped me build my reputation comes down to two things: quality and professionalism.
For over 15 years, I’ve been intentional about the work I put out. I’ve never been interested in oversaturating the market for exposure. If something doesn’t meet my standards, I won’t put my name on it. I challenge myself to raise the bar with every project—continuously learning, evolving, and pushing my craft forward. I believe that mindset is just as important as experience. Growth never stops in this industry, and I make it a point to stay curious and push myself creatively.
The other major factor is how I carry myself. No matter how a relationship starts—whether it begins as a friendship and turns professional, or starts strictly as business—I treat every project with the same level of respect and professionalism. How I show up, how I execute ideas, being prepared, being on time, and making strong first impressions all play a role.
When people hire me or work with From the Bottom TV, they already know what to expect: high-quality work, someone who takes their vision seriously, and someone who’s going to handle the process the right way. Those principles have built trust over time, and that trust has shaped my reputation more than anything else.
That consistency in quality, growth, and character is what people remember—and that’s what I have built my brand on.
