We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hunter Logan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hunter, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Opening up a Internet Radio station which you really know nothing about and play a genre of music no one has heard of and starting it all with no capital and just a lump of faith. This was me 16 years ago.
I was working for a radio station about 40 miles away from my hometown. In January 2010 I did a remote on location for a computer business in my hometown of Jennings La. After the remote was over, I visited with the owner who would rent me a space in the building. I did this so I could do my paperwork and not drive round trip 80 miles.
Well, eventually my boss from the radio station said if I didn’t come in everyday that I would be fired. Since they weren’t paying me like they said, I said fine. Then I called my wife and told her. She said well you might as well do it yourself.
Not knowing the first thing about internet radio, HLE Radio was formed. It has been 16 years and the doors are still open. Many changes have taken place during those 16 years, but we have grown a lot and won many awards with various organizations.

Hunter, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well first of all, I am nothing without Jesus Christ. He is the reason I am able to do what I do. I am a singer/songwriter with over 250 published songs. I have 9 albums out of my own. But I am also The Morning Show host on HLE Radio. Our show is live every Monday through Friday from 7 am to 9 am cst.
One of the things that set HLE Radio apart from other stations is I believe for two reasons. First, since I am an artist myself, I can identify with the artists much better than someone who isn’t. I mean, I have the same stories they have. Being double booked, not getting paid, broke down on the side of the road with no money, you name it I have experienced it.
Second, because we run our internet station just like a terrestrial station. We image it to sound like a big FM station. These two things are I believe what keep us ahead of the pack.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
At one point upon starting the radio station, my house was going into foreclosure. Both my vehicles were getting repossessed. In fact one day the repossession folks were in town and went by my house. But the car was parked at the station. Thank goodness they didn’t find it.
Zero money coming in from the radio station, it didn’t look good. But my wife who was in it with me all the way believed in what I was doing and as long as we were together in agreement, I knew we would make it.
Well God stepped in as he always does and that time has never happened again and we have been able to keep the doors open. I will be honest, if I didn’t have faith in my Jesus, I don’t think we are the station would have made it.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is simple at HLE Radio. To communicate the message of the Gospel through mass audio media, directing as many people as possible toward God’s heart. We want to effectively let people know the GOOD NEWS and we do this by our specialty programs and Christian Country Music 24/7 365.
