We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Romello Tilghman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Romello below.
Romello, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
You know, the idea for my business really started with my grandmother. She passed away from cancer, and in that time, I saw how her skin was affected by treatments. And I realized that she didn’t just care about her appearance—she cared about feeling loved, nurtured, and seen. So, after she passed, I kept returning to that feeling. I realized I wanted to create something that was more than just a product—it was a tribute to her, a way to spread that love. I felt this would work because so many people—like me, and from my community—deal with sensitive skin. And I saw that, sometimes, it’s not just about medication; it’s about going back to those simple, natural ingredients—things that nourish and heal from within. I was solving a problem that, I think, wasn’t being fully addressed—this idea that beauty and health can be nurtured with love, just like my grandma showed me. And that’s what makes me so excited—this is more than a business; it’s a legacy of love, care, and healing.

Romello, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So, my name is Romello, and I’m the founder of Scents By Romello. I got into this industry out of a personal passion and a family legacy. After my grandmother passed away from cancer, I was inspired to create a line of skincare products that honor her memory. I come from a background where natural remedies were key—before modern medicine, people relied on simple ingredients passed down through generations. My line includes goat milk, honey, clear glycerin, and oat milk-based soaps, along with two distinct lotion lines, each featuring unique sea moss blends. Every ingredient—from goat milk’s deep hydration to honey’s radiance—has a purpose, offering natural, soothing care for sensitive skin. What really sets me apart is that I’m not just following trends—I’m returning to time-honored, gentle remedies infused with love. Many brands focus on quick fixes, but I focus on holistic care. I address a problem that isn’t always solved by medication—this is about love, legacy, and confidence in your own skin. I’m most proud that my brand is a vessel for self-love and healing, and that’s what I want my clients to know—this is a brand built on care, intention, and the belief that everyone’s skin deserves to be celebrated.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think a powerful example of my resilience is when I went from having no job at all to being a full-time business owner—pouring my heart into every product, every customer, and every moment. But then, when life threw me a curveball and I had to take a full-time shift from 11:35 a.m. to 8:05 p.m., I didn’t give up. I had to pause my business temporarily, but that didn’t break my spirit. I got up 4 hours earlier than my shift, stayed up late, and found a way to balance that demanding schedule while still pouring myself into my craft. That grit, I didn’t let the setback stop me; I just adapted, and now I am back in full swing, stronger, more determined, and more connected to my purpose than ever.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep a really close connection with my clients—most of them come from word of mouth, and many are friends of friends. I make it super easy for them to reach me—I’m really active on Instagram, and I stay accessible for any feedback or suggestions. When they have ideas—like if they feel a lotion could be more hydrating—I listen. I take their advice to heart, and I adjust my formulas so that the products get better over time. This is so much more than just a transaction—this is about real care. I don’t just want them to buy a product; I want them to love their skin and feel that I’m with them every step of the way. And by being so accessible—messaging on Instagram, engaging, and truly being present—I build that loyalty, that trust, and that sense that this brand is really a partnership in their self-care journey.
