We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Kinney recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tasha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
As for the creators in small business industry I am in, my fellow creators, educators and crafters have a hard time with educating others or sharing ideas. Of course there are many who will continuously educate and share ideas. Which is always an amazing gesture. But there are some who hold on to ideas and tips to prevent others from growing in the industry.
Sharing ideas and creating a space to share what one knows about being successful in this industry may not easy for some. I have learned so much as an educator that it is second nature for me to share information with others at no cost. Now, I will say there are a few things that I will hold near and dear to my heart because it took time and effort to learn those things. But sharing how to’s or helping others in the same industry should be a given and most disagree with my stance on this.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I have been mentoring children through my lessons in the classroom, through athletics as a coach and just through general conversation. Mentoring does not mean that you are a certified professional in the field that you are in per se. mentoring can come in the form of using personal experiences and guiding others through the word/gift that has been give to you. I have been in the education field for 16+ years and I love to educate others when I can. I have been married for 13 years to my amazing husband and we have three beautiful children. To which I give God the glory for blessing me with these three children and I also have the ketogenic lifestyle to thank as well.
I began creating crafts/diy products as a hobby and soon after receiving many compliments I then created an Etsy store. I am a certified Health and Wellness Keto Coach and can also provide you with personalized plans to heal you from the inside out. After living a Ketogenic lifestyle for 3 plus years she has healed herself and maintained a handle on anxiety due to the pandemic. I have struggled with fertility since 2009 and have changed my eating habits to reverse my fertility problems and as mentioned now have 3 children. Creating healthy habits create healthy outcomes.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Becoming a Keto coach cured my infertility and anxiety.
Why did I choose the ketogenic lifestyle? Through the years I have struggled with fertility. My first son I had a few struggles to the point the doctor told me that I could not conceive children on my own. As a woman this is a devastating statement, I cannot have kids. But regardless to what the doctor said in 2010 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy by the name of Garren. As Garren began to get older he started asking about siblings. And of course my husband and I were all on board for having more children. So the journey began for sibling number one when my son turned two. We tried to conceive for at least for years and nothing happened. My doctor recommended a number of medical prescriptions that all turn to failed pregnancy test each month. This mentally drained me so eventually my husband and I decided that we would go through IVF process. We knew that this decision would guarantee a baby though we couldn’t naturally have one on our own. After going through our first cycle we successfully gave birth to a baby girl who is now three years old her name is Briel. So after having Briel and noticing the weight gain and the now inflammation due to IVF I began researching diet‘s. I have a literally been on every diet you could ever think of through my life time. All diets that I have been on previously were not sustainable I would lose weight and quickly gain it all back. Or I would be consistent on the diet but then quickly have cravings that I could not fight off. So my husband began to tell me about his friend/coworker who was doing the ketogenic diet. His friend was going into business and to create keto ketogenic pizza crust made out of cauliflower. I also had a few coworkers who were also on the ketogenic lifestyle journey who shared their every day meal plan with me which convinced me that I could do it. I researched what foods I could have, what macros were, how this lifestyle change would make me feel and if it was sustainable. Once I had all of this information it was a breeze. I love protein, I love berries,, I enjoy cooking, I love salads and I could still have some of my favorite foods. Once I began planning out my food and understanding the science behind the ketogenic lifestyle my journey began. So my reason why was at the time to lose weight from my IVF process. Now I mentioned before that I I struggled with fertility. So here I am now 2018 living my best life on this ketogenic journey losing all the inches around my thighs and arms and of course losing the pounds and keeping the pounds off. At this point I’m feeling great I have a lot of energy I’m focused and I am loving this journey. One day I began feeling lethargic and not really having an appetite. Discontinued for a couple of weeks. I then noticed that my cycle was off but I didn’t pay any attention to it. Because remember I had for ternal fertility issues which meant I can’t get pregnant on my own. This is what the doctor said and I believed it. It wasn’t until one day I said you know what let me randomly take this pregnancy test. Now I fully expected this pregnancy test to be negative because over the years over the course of eight years every time I took a pregnancy test it was negative. Little did I know that because my body was going through this change and is now running off of key tones that I would conceive a baby on my own. Because the pH levels in my body were changed the reproductive system was not working and could fully function despite what the doctor said.Soooo I take the test and it’s positive 2019 I gave birth to my baby girl Alaina who is now one years old.
The ketogenic lifestyle is something that I will continue because it’s a lifestyle not a diet. I explained in my story that originally did it because I wanted to lose weight not knowing the benefits that it has. After doctors told me that I was never going to be able to get pregnant on my own I can seed a keto baby. This lifestyle is something that can change your life and I am a firm believer in that. The ketogenic lifestyle Will heal you from the inside out. Understanding the science behind it and what your body can tolerate is essential in this lifestyle change. Mentally this has given me the structure and knowledge that I need to not only help myself but to help others. This is more than just wait for me, this is my health and being here for my family. I have taken this journey and made it my own and now I share this journey and I coach others. I coach my best friend Lillian out of what was some of the hardest years and turn them into her beautiful smile. I get pure joy seeing the faces of my clients who are coach because they have found something that they can sustain without struggle. My best friend has done an amazing job and I am so proud that I could say that I coached her because of all of the night said said I the knowledge that I’ve gained over the years through my ketogenic lifestyle journey. I have now found my tribe and they know who they are the support that I have is unbelievable. Not only do I get support from my husband but I now have a tribe of people from across the globe that share their journey and stories with me every day I am so thankful for everyone that I have met along this way and everyone who I will meet in the future.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I call this job my full time job and my side hustle my true 9 to 5. Meaning me clocking in to a contract job vs my passion are in 2 different arena. I will always give my absolute all to anything that I am doing. But as my hobby began to become my passion my business began to shift. Dedicating time and effort in building a brand and hitting those milestone moments are things that helped me. As I mentioned previously, the pandemic is really what catapulted my business. I worked from home and created a schedule to create and work on my orders.
