We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabrielle Hamrick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabrielle , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
When I started my company, I began with a couple hundred dollars and a dream, I was working at a warehouse job all throughout esthetician school to keep me afloat through my education. When I graduated I recall feeling really stressed with finding a job that resonated with me, Because sure you can wax or do facials anywhere but what truly mattered to me was ethics, care and finding a structure that wasn’t built off of quick sales. Unfortunately I wasn’t guided towards anything that aligned with me, as frustrating as this was I really had to sit with myself and tell myself that maybe my passion for esthetics belonged in a place I built myself.
I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a hard journey, it takes time to build a name for yourself, it takes YEARS to really feel confident in the foundation of your business and one of the hardest things to digest is sometimes that foundation may fall down to align more with whatever season of life you are in.
I am always learning how to be better, always committed to doing better because client care is the catalyst of any business and I hope that can be normalized within many industries.
My advice for anyone who is wanting to start a company is to believe in your vision but do so realistically, don’t be afraid to take it one step at a time because baby steps are necessary!
Whilst we want business to be our livelihood never solely think of it as just money, especially in the beauty industry because you have many humans that are being energetically healed by you and the way that you handle them matters.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Gabrielle Hamrick, I am a 24 year old entrepreneur and owner of Sacra Aesthetics.
For many years my business name was Goddess of wax, I recently shifted into a new era of business and rebranded as Sacra. My intention behind this was to encapsulate my new found love for skin treatments into the name, as I felt waxing wasn’t all I wanted to be known for. The meaning behind Sacra is Sacred in italian, This resonated very deeply with me as I come from a Italian family + I sometimes can’t find the words to describe how sacred my work is to me, I have the pleasure of meeting so many strong woman daily and it’s touching to know that you can impact someone’s life by making them feel seen, heard and beautiful.
I offer many types of services such as Acne Treatment’s, Brazilian waxing, Brow waxing and Customized Facials to meet many different client needs. I am hoping to expand my business towards more luxury skincare treatments and partner with a medical director to bring on more clinical grade skincare that goes above and beyond to treat each client intentionally.
I feel what sets me apart in this industry is my heart, I try to connect with all my clients and make them feel taken care of in any way I possibly can. That’s deeply important to me as a service provider.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I think a huge lesson I’ve had to overcome and still sometimes struggle with is that I cannot compare myself to others.
Whilst this is a common experience in life, especially with social media being so prevalent, it’s a toxic cycle that must be undone and re-analyzed.
I realized this was something that had taken over my career since the moment I stepped foot in it, which is odd because I feel I never realized it until I was hitting milestones that I had always wished for, yet still couldn’t pat myself on the back when they were reached. It sent me into this really weird state of mind because how can I keep surpassing things I had always wanted but kept craving more?
With reflection I realized how many influencer estheticians I was following or how much doom-scrolling I was doing on a day to day basis.
Until one day I consciously said to myself, “ you cannot compare someone’s chapter 20 to your chapter 6.” It’s easier said than done, but it’s necessary to redirect what we are consuming visually on a day to day basis. As humans we carry our own light, we carry our own energy that is incomparable. Clients don’t just choose anyone, they choose those that they can relate to or feel a safe energy from and I think that’s when I was able to snap out of the cycle I was in.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting from nothing is something that will always stand out to me. No one else is gonna believe in you the way you believe in you and whilst that’s empowering it’s also defeating at times when you lose your way.
I went to esthetician school during COVID-19 and it felt like my schedule was constantly filled to the brim, school 5-6 days a week and work on any off Time I had. It was exhausting and mentally challenging, but I knew if I applied myself for those 8 months I would be able to create something for myself. following through with that all blindly was incredibly scary.
Before I even enrolled in esthetics school I think it took me hitting a breaking point in my mental state to find that drive and pull myself out of a very dark place, I felt like I had no purpose at that time.
Every brick of my business was built with blood, sweat and tears as corny as that may sound. I lost a lot of my young years following a dream only I could see but I do have to say, it was well worth being where I am now.
I’m very grateful and moved by the support I have received all these years, I’m looking forward to many more.
