We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chantal Hackett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chantal below.
Alright, Chantal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
In grade six, I discovered my passion for singing when my piano teacher asked me to sing along. That moment opened a door, leading to vocal lessons and eventually founding Sing House Studios. I learned how important it is to explore beyond one’s comfort zone—so now I encourage my students to do the same, because you never know where hidden talent lies. Later, in high school, I joined a highly demanding vocal arts program. It was intense, often leaving me in tears, but it taught me professionalism—showing up prepared, respecting others’ time, and handling pressure. These lessons served me when I later worked with top industry professionals in Nashville, Atlanta, and beyond. Today, I teach my students not just music, but the discipline and confidence to thrive in any professional setting—because talent paired with professionalism is what truly prepares you for the real world.

Chantal, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first discovered my love for singing when I was encouraged to step beyond my piano lessons. By 15, I was teaching music myself, and it became clear that I had a gift for helping others reach their goals. I balanced my own music career while studying at The University of Ottawa, working in government and non-profits, but eventually, I knew I needed to create something of my own. That’s how Sing House Studios began—literally in my mother’s living room. Now, over 20 years later, we’re an award-winning school offering vocal, piano, guitar, ukulele, and songwriting lessons, alongside pop-star birthday parties, summer camps, and live performances.
What sets us apart is how we combine creativity with purpose. Our students—both kids and adults—don’t just attend lessons; they perform in themed, high-quality productions, often for community causes. We incorporate recording sessions right into lessons, giving our students a taste of the professional world. But most importantly, I’m proud that our students are in control of their journey. They choose their own goals, and we’re there to guide them—whether that means building confidence, performing for the first time, or pursuing big industry dreams. I’m most proud that I’ve built a space where people feel seen and heard—where they can express themselves, grow, and find joy in music, just like I once needed.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey is how I met my now-manager, Erica Brighthill. She started out as my student at around 17, and I remember her saying she wished something like Sing House Studios had existed for her earlier. Over time, I could see her passion for what we do. She volunteered, joined our student road crew, and contributed ideas that helped us grow. When we expanded, it was clear she belonged on the team. Now, she’s our manager, and we balance a strong friendship with a thriving professional partnership. The lesson I’ve learned—and hope to share—is that sometimes your future collaborator is right in front of you. When you find someone who believes deeply in your mission, don’t be afraid to nurture that relationship. It’s been a gift having Erica by my side, and it shows that shared passion can blossom into a partnership that propels your business forward.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We build loyalty by honoring the trust clients place in us—before, during, and after their chapter with us. Before, we welcome them into a space where their goals matter. During, we stay connected with meaningful check-ins, cheering them on at showcases, and fostering friendships at events like hot cocoa parties. After, we stay connected—through social media, at events, or even inviting them back. In fact, many of our long-ago students, because we’ve nurtured that relationship, now bring their own kids to join us, or they attend our shows to support the next generation. The key lesson is this: by showing genuine care across every stage—before, during, and long after—you create a community where they feel valued for life. In turn, they remain part of your journey, and sometimes, they bring the next generation along, too.
