Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Judi Jai. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Judi , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
I had the best parents in the world! My mom and dad worked extremely hard to ensure I would not ever need for anything. My mom grew up in a small town in the country of Louisiana called Lake Charles, and she left to fulfill her dreams in the big city of Chicago. My dad was also born down south, in Tennessee, and he also went to Chicago to live out his. My parents both graduated with their Masters Degree; and went above and beyond to become successful. My mom became a commissioner of the state of Illinois and also the manager of purchasing departments at big hospitals like Oak Forest Hospital and Stroger Hospital in Chicago. My dad, after serving our country and becoming a veteran, also working in law, started his own trucking company called “We Jac Inc.” He became partners with many big companies, sponsored by the likes of Hennessy and Johnny Walker Red, and was even named as one of the most successful black men in ‘Ebony Magazine’ in the 90’s. Both my parents accomplished way more, but the main point is how they decided how they would play their hand of cards they were dealt with, staying consistent and driven throughout their journey. I saw first hand what persistence, grace, class and determination was, and how you can achieve anything you want. I am an entrepreneur myself and I have my parents to thank for the sacrifices they made to give me such a blessed and wonderful life. Although they have crossed over, their memory is forever in my heart and I live my life to the fullest because of them. Their spirit is embedded in me always.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am mostly known from being a reality TV legend on Oxygen Network’s hit show “Bad Girls Club”. Since my debut on season 7 New Orleans in 2011, I have actively been on multiple television shows across many platforms like BET, Zeus, Out TV, The CW, E! and many other cable channels and streaming services, acted in movies, hosted reunions and specials winning multiple fan favorite titles, released music, and released tons of merch from my brand Vixen, LLC., one being my perfumes HEX and Taboo that was sold on Walmart.com. I have modeled and graced a lot of spreads in big name print magazines, and I am also an author and released my first book in 2015, which was dedicated to my parents. All proceeds go to Lung Cancer Awareness. I also host my own podcast called “SO KRAZi Podcast”, and season 2 is in development. My co-host and I plan to take it on the road, upload on other platforms like Apple and Spotify Podcasts, and have guest this time around. You can watch season 1 on YouTube at SoKraziPodcast. More music is on the way as well. Furthermore, you can look out for me in skits online orchestrated under comedian Kuntry Wayne. I’ve done a lot more and still going! The destination is the journey. We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I believe both of my parents crossing over within months of each other was the biggest change I’ll ever go through. I’ve been through a lot personally but nothing can hurt as bad as that. My parents didn’t give me the world for nothing. And everyday I am reminded that they want the best for me, and I have to keep going in their honor. Spirituality saved my life. Although I am Catholic, having personal peace and faith is the key.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being authentic is the answer. No one can be you. No one can do what you do. And you have to totally lean into that. Be you. Nobody is going to do it better.
