We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tonyael Miller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tonyael below.
Alright, Tonyael thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Yes, there was a defining moment, and it came during a season I never expected to change my career.
After becoming a Mom, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. I was functioning, but I wasn’t okay. I felt disconnected from myself and realized I had spent so much time taking care of everyone else that I had stopped taking care of me. The shift happened when I decided to invest in my health and healing. I started working with a trainer and a therapist, and fitness became more than just a workout; it became my outlet, my structure, and my way back to myself. Movement helped me rebuild my confidence and strengthen my mindset during a really hard time. What stood out to me was how few spaces existed for women (especially moms) who were struggling mentally but still wanted to feel strong in their bodies. That’s when my relationship with fitness changed. I stopped seeing it as just physical and started seeing it as a tool for mental resilience. That moment changed everything. It led me to become a trainer and eventually build a business rooted in helping women reclaim their confidence, joy, and mental strength through fitness. The biggest lesson I learned is that healing can become purpose and sometimes the thing you go through is exactly what prepares you to help others.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Tonyael Miller, also known as Coach T. I’m a certified master trainer, wellness coach, and mental health advocate based in Chicago. I help Moms and Caregivers drastically decrease depression, reclaim confidence in their skin, and find joy again through fitness that supports both mental and physical wellbeing. I got into this work through lived experience. After becoming a Mom, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. Fitness started as a personal outlet and a way to cope, feel strong again, and reconnect with myself. As my mental health improved, I realized how powerful movement could be when it’s used intentionally, not just for aesthetics but for healing. That experience shifted how I viewed fitness and ultimately led me to build my own wellness business. Today, I offer virtual and in-person fitness coaching, structured programs, mindset support, and curated wellness experiences. My approach blends strength training, Pilates, and mental resilience with realistic routines designed for busy women. Many of the women I work with are navigating anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges, and I help them rebuild consistency, confidence, and a healthy relationship with movement. What sets me apart is my focus on reclaiming your body, your mindset, and your sense of self. I don’t believe in extreme plans or quick fixes. I meet women where they are and help them build sustainable habits that fit their real lives. Fitness is not separate from mental health in my work, it’s integrated. I’m most proud of the community I’ve built and the transformations I’ve witnessed beyond the scale. My clients don’t just get stronger physically; they gain confidence, mental clarity, and a renewed sense of self-worth. Watching women reclaim joy and show up differently in their lives is the most rewarding part of my work. What I want people to know about me and my brand is that this work is personal. I coach from experience, not perfection. My mission is to help women evolve into the best version of themselves by using fitness as a tool for healing, empowerment, and long-term wellness.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One moment that really reflects my resilience happened early in my journey as a Mom and entrepreneur. I was living in Atlanta as a single mom, far from my family and support system, while also working a full-time corporate job. I was juggling work, motherhood, and building something for myself, and during that time I began experiencing anxiety in a way I never had before. Instead of ignoring it, I chose to prioritize my mental health while still showing up for my responsibilities. I leaned into movement, created structure in my routine, and found healthy outlets to manage my anxiety. Fitness became more than a workout; it became a way for me to feel grounded, regain control, and keep moving forward during a challenging season. That experience taught me that resilience isn’t about doing everything perfectly or having all the answers. It’s about continuing to show up, adapting when things get hard, and choosing yourself even when life feels heavy. That season laid the foundation for how I live, lead, and coach today.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that fitness had to look a certain way to be effective. Early on, I believed that results only came from extreme workouts, rigid plans, and constantly pushing harder.
The backstory is tied to both my personal fitness journey and my early days as a trainer. I was doing everything “by the book” intense workouts, strict routines, and an all-or-nothing mindset. But as I worked with more women, especially Moms juggling real life, I saw how that approach often led to burnout, inconsistency, and guilt rather than progress.
I had to unlearn the belief that more was always better. Once I shifted my focus to sustainable movement, realistic routines, and mental health alongside physical fitness, everything changed for me and for my clients. Progress became more consistent, confidence improved, and women started feeling empowered instead of overwhelmed. That lesson reshaped how I coach today. I no longer chase extremes; I help women build habits they can maintain. Unlearning that mindset allowed me to create a more inclusive, supportive, and effective approach to wellness.
