We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kashish Kalita. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kashish below.
Kashish, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
I am just 11, so obviously I don’t have any boss per se. However, I would like to say my dad as a mentor to me, and occasionally he fills the place of a Boss. Yet, one of the best mentors ever! Not only he does kid-like fun activities with me, but he also teaches me life lessons, skills, and recommend books that can help me at my age and with my future and career. If at first, I don’t succeed, I ask my dad, because he’s SO supportive and hardworking.
Aside from his work and family responsibilities, he manages his schedule to be able to work with me or on my things. While I am working on my workshops, my ThinkShift company, my acting career, on my books, my school homework, and a lot more, he always adds something of value or guidance whenever possible. My dad doesn’t do things for me, rather discusses, remove confusion, guide, and allow me to work on my way.
He shares the best advice with me, which shows he truly cares and wants the best for me. He makes me laugh a lot and I enjoy having our small 15-20 minute “life with papa” sessions! I learn so much from my dad than I do from anywhere else. The effort and encouragement are well-appreciated as well. He is my wonderful guide, my amazing mentor, awesome friend and most of all, a great dad making time for BOTH his daughters, and his lovely wife, aka my beautiful mom!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a multi-career person, meaning I do a variety of things that get involved with my multiple careers! I get a lot of opportunities because I do so many things. It was not at all simple for me to get to where I am now. I had to learn to step outside of my comfort zone and manage my time to finish my work while juggling my school. I had to adapt to new ways of doing things and meeting new people in different environments, whether it’s travelling to somewhere, or performing in a studio. Even though I always earn As and complete my tasks on time, sometimes it gets challenging to stay motivated.
I’ve been working hard since the age of 8, so it’s been 3 years and my success is increasing along with the recognition! You MUST make sacrifices to succeed, and that’s what I did. You also must be patient for your results. Exciting things do occur, like my acting tryouts. Because each audition is unique and varied, it’s so much fun to participate in them. Auditions, classes, workshops, planning, goal setting, vision board, everything is individually important to reach to my goal. I have to say, I got a lot of gain from my books that I published and I’m very proud of it! I’m excited to release my 3rd book coming Fall 2022, and the workshops I’ll be hosting. I just hosted my first workshop called ‘Road to Productivity’ in collaboration with TheSuccessDoor whose CEO/Founder is Ms. Neetu Rishi. It was a huge success and coming up next versions soon.
I recently gave my 2nd TEDx talk, launched my own company ThinkShift, and performed three plays in one year! It’s been so much fun, and I’m looking forward to more. My company ThinkShift was recently launched, and I’m very excited for all the advantages, and positive things that I can share with others to help and influence them to succeed. We have many activities planned, which I’m looking forward to execution! ThinkShift’s mission is to guide people to pursue their passions and thrive in their choice of career, whether it’s acting, art, writing or anything else!
But I want everyone to know, I am not perfect. I struggle too, and sometimes I want to walk away; I feel low too, but I don’t give up and that’s what’s most important – I believe in myself. You should have faith in yourself. I am still a human being, what makes me stand out is that I keep attempting to unleash my creativity out of me at a young age, but you can still do that as well if you are willing to. There’s no definite age when you start your journey to your big accomplishments! Just remember to take action. If you haven’t found the chance yet, create the chance. Take charge!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! I believe that any thought that you have that you are willing to, and desire to execute, especially over a long period of time, in my opinion is a huge mission that you are striving toward. For me, it is simply to help others. To benefit others. What really motivates and pushes me more is being able to be there for others and being a role model and mentor to them. I honestly feel happiness and get excited about that! But I realize that to be able to reach out to a large community like that, I would need a platform. Thus, that’s where my company, ThinkShift, was born! With the help of ThinkShift, I can reach out to more people, more kids of any age, shifting their thoughts towards growth mindset and a positive lifestyle. ThinkShift represents me and my influence to benefit others and recognize other people’s journeys through their interviews, providing exposure to their awesome work … overall to inspire them so that they can grow and succeed more than they can even think of. It makes me so happy to see people thrive and get creative in their area of career and passion!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, there are. As an avid reader, I love to read books of all genres. Some serious, some fantasy, some thrilling, and some unknown. Because of this, my mind is always engaged and stay creative with my imagination – which helps me to write my books! Yet, I do take time to read books and listen to audiobooks that are related with achieving success and being the best of the best. I love reading the books that my parents suggest. One of my favorite authors is Jon Gordon. His books are very knowledgeable that share principals through a beautiful, inspiring, and relatable story. His books are also kid friendly. I am currently reading the book “Secrets to Getting Things Done” by Vincent Harris. One habit that I have when reading books like these, are underlining important key points, quotes, taking notes and journal my own thoughts. It’s a very good thing to do as my dad was the one who would do it, and then inspired me to do so. In fact, I have a full stack of books I would like to read next sitting in my closet! Now, there are other resources that I use, like reading articles occasionally, and often having discussions with my dad. But I have to say, reading books is my ultimate way of gaining a great mindset and understanding of specific things of being an entrepreneur!
