We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janet Nwachukwu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Janet, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Life is a gamble. Every step you take out of uncertainty is a risk, so we are constantly in a loop of risk taking. A risk I had taken a couple years back was starting my business. I had no idea where things will go or how exactly I was going to be able to navigate through all the obstacles starting your own business would entail but I went out on a limp of faith and trusted all things will fall into place. Till date I am still struggling to nurture and balance my business as a Full-time worker and a Social Media influencer, but I do not regret taking the risk and starting my business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Janet, I often go by Jay. I am from Saudi Arabia/Nigeria. I migrated to the United States at the age of 15 to pursue a better education and chase my dreams of playing futbol. Unfortunately that shipped sailed when my parents told me to stop playing due to some family complications. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a concentration in Public Relations and Business Marketing. I am the creator and owner of JayNwach Collection, I am also a Social Media influencer/content creator.
Jay Nwach is more than just a brand, it is a movement. The mission is to promote self-love and confidence in all our pieces through all our customers.
JayNwach Collection offers apparel and accessories for women of all shapes and sizes. What sets JayNwach apart from other brands is our raw ability to cater to women of all sizes and help them build their confidence through our pieces. What I am most proud of is that I built this entire brand alone from scratch.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The main think that helped me build my reputation within my market is transparency. There’s always this glamorous feeling that is geared towards “Ceo’s and business owners” but nobody ever shades light on the work. The sleepless nights, the never ending search for constant improvement, the endless trials and errors. So one thing that has helped me build my reputation was just being transparent, being honest with my clientele and audience. If something goes wrong or unexpected things come up, I take initiative to let them know.
In my experience, most of the creative and amazing things I have curated was from the root of a problem. Problems push me to do things I would have never done if I didn’t have them. We have been nurtured to believe that problems are bad, but in my perspective they steer you towards your best self, every time you have a problem you prove to yourself that you ale greater than that. Finding a solution to each problem is what gives life meaning.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the greatest lessons I have had to unlearn is “problems are bad.” In my experience, most of the most creative and amazing things I have curated was from the root of a problem. Problems push me to do things I would have never done if I
didn’t have them. We have been nurtured to believe that problems are bad, but in my perspective they steer you towards
your best self, every time you have a problem you prove to yourself that you ale greater than that. Finding a solution to each problem is what gives life meaning.
