We recently connected with Dallas Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dallas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I have owned my company now for 13 years. And I would not want to have any other job in the world. It is by far the most redeeming, rewarding, loving, caring, trusting and most professional job by far. I’ve actually in 13 years never have thought what else could I be doing in this world. I certainly wouldn’t want a regular job. That’s for sure. I get to set my own hours I get to say yes or no. I can set my own schedules. Meet with clients become friendly with clients and then build relationship with clients to the point where it’s complete trust and loyalty when it comes to my clientele.. and I definitely think that I was born to do this kind of job so that I could be peaceful in my own life around animals all day. I don’t like working for other people and prefer to spend my day with animals any day of the week.

Dallas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I came up with the name, peaceful pets of Savannah because I was searching at that time 13 years ago in my life for something peaceful job wise just in general and I’ve always had a knack for entrepreneurial business savvy if you will. I’ve always started my own little company when I was really young and I excel it anything I find a need for when I was younger from selling Magazines to selling Girl Scout cookies to starting my own lemonade stand, starting my own babysitting club. I love animals. I don’t have children of my own so these are lol my babies! I’ve always just had the drive and tenacity to work on my own and work for myself. After I graduated college, I went off to Los Angeles to become an actress and Model and have been doing that since the age of ten years old. After I moved back from Los Angeles like I said, I wanted to find a peaceful job. My first thought would be to work at a spa, but that ended up being a disaster. Women working with women was a nightmare. Constant bickering, talking about people behind their backs, employees fighting. It was just chaos so I knew a friend that has a Pet sitting and dog walking company and I was literally thinking to myself, gosh this would be so easy to start and it’s a great need for the Savannah area so I started making business cards and a website and then I started advertising locally at the Landings in the skinny magazine. I went around to vet offices to pet stores to coffee shops and left cards and then it sort of took off. I am really good at scheduling appointments. Intro visits walks overnight it is very simple for me to manage that part. I work alone and would prefer it that way. If there is any kind of conflict, I would give suggestions to a client like hey if I’m already doing overnights for those specific dates that you need overnights for how about I just do visits instead or vice versa I would speak to both clients and see which one would work best so it’s always just worked out. I’ve never had to say no really to anyone and I’ve been so grateful and amazed at how quickly things took off and are still super busy to this day. I probably have over 300 clients and pretty much they’re all still very loyal except obviously pets that have passed away.. I think what sets me a part from most other companies is that I provide like real time spending with animals going on adventure hikes, and going swimming and taking dogs to the marina and golf cart rides. Really just doing what an animal would love to do and I make sure that they’re happy healthy and having fun. I don’t charge extra for that. I’m sure most companies do but to me it’s not about the money it’s more about the pets being happy while the owners are away. .

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Savannah is a very small town and primarily my business clientele is from word-of-mouth. In the very beginning, I worked a lot out of the Landings which is where I’m from and I know a lot of people out there so word-of-mouth just sort of took its course and I became best Pet Sitter for South Magazine in 2021 and runner up for best Pet sitting and dog walking company 2025. I do believe that your work speaks for itself not only do I help with the pets while you’re away or take them out for walks while you’re at work, but I also clean up. I mean, I wash sheets and towels, and clean up the house and do like what a Cleaning lady probably would do. Grab the mail, water plants. I go above and beyond. So just taking those extra steps to show the client that I’m a professional and reliable and trustworthy Pet Sitter and that’s what sort of makes my company so successful.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Let’s see a lot of of my clients I keep in touch with just through text. You know if I haven’t heard from someone in a while. I’ll reach out and just say hi thinking about you and the dogs or cats or what not primarily though I have a social media, Instagram and Facebook page so a lot of connection and conversations are through those so we keep in touch through those outlets.
In response to your question about fostering brands, I’ve had so many big companies even like chewy.com reach out and wanna do like partnerships, and I’ve had other companies that do human cold therapy or red light therapy and want to do a collaboration, which I think is amazing because I love the idea of Holistic and organic medicine and services that will help animals with pain or getting older or arthritis. You know those kinds of things that can be done in an effective and moderately priced way. And it’s amazing how many people have reached out to my company from other parts of the US even overseas to ask me how I’ve started my business and how you know beautiful my pictures are on Instagram and how I got started. I’m not the kind of person that gets upset if someone wants to start the same business here In Savannah I think I push for that. I want people to be successful at whatever they do so if I can help in anyway, I certainly provide that for people who are interested. There are a lot of animals in this city so working alone obviously I can’t take on the whole city by myself so I encourage others to do the same. .
