We were lucky to catch up with Knox Ketchum recently and have shared our conversation below.
Knox, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned to write music by studying the artists & musicians I grew up listening to. I wanted to basically live in the studio so I knew I’d have to learn to record myself because studio time isn’t cheap! With help from a friend/mentor over a 5 year span, I became an efficient audio engineer for my own music. I also track vocals & instrumentation for other local acts in my area as a way to earn extra money to support my musical endeavors.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Knox Ketchum & I’m a recording artist/audio engineer from New Orleans, Louisiana. At my studio “Mid City Sound” I track vocals & instrumentation for a variety of artists & musicians. My love of music & media is what lead me to my career. Longevity is what I’m most proud of when it comes to my work. The music industry is unforgiving & I’ve been able to endure the ups & downs that come with it all while keeping & nurturing meaningful relationships with clients & fans of my music alike.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I don’t really know if there’s a specific goal in my mind when it comes to music. I think being passionate & having fun is what I aim for. Obviously money is another driver but it isn’t my main concern. If you do what you love & make the kind of music you love & want to hear, the money will come. No stress.

Have you ever had to pivot?
In June of 2025, I was involved in a bad car wreck, breaking both of my legs and left shoulder. I’m still recovering today & things are moving in a positive direction. After the wreck, I was forced to take a break from recording music for a few months. Having to relearn how to walk has been challenging but I know I’ll be able to manage. I’m currently back in the studio taking sessions and recording my own music again! I’m grateful for my family & support system who have been with me every step of the way.
