We were lucky to catch up with Amia Serrano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Styling is what first got me recording behind-the-scenes videos on set and with my personal styling clients. That naturally evolved into making reels of their looks I styled, which then turned into me creating my own creative reels and eventually reels for others too.
My ideas usually come up randomly and are sparked by music not “trending sounds” everyone is using on Instagram, just whatever song gets me going. For my own reels, it usually starts with a thought like, “Ooo I want to do something to this” after hearing a song then I start picturing what I’d be doing, where I’d shoot it, how it’d be recorded, and what I’d be wearing.
When I’m creating reels for others, it’s a little different. I capture a bunch of good clips first and then when I’m editing, I start piecing everything together and figuring out which song fits the vibe, the aesthetic, and is on brand for them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a freelance fashion stylist working on set and production, a personal stylist styling everyday people, and reels creator.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
By being me and wanting to always be different with my presence on social media than what everyone else is doing on there.
My advice: Just do you. Have fun with it. Kill the comparison trap. Don’t post what you think everyone wants you to, but what you want to.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Clients loving their looks and people enjoying the reels I create.
