Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Xavier Ray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Xavier, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
The answer is always yes. Who wouldn’t say yes to this? lol
I wish I started sooner, I wish I had the clarity I have now. I wish I started streaming earlier instead of spending years in other projects. But at the same time, those years practicing my craft, those years in those projects made me who I am today.
If I didn’t work on the projects I did with my friends, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I am grateful for the years and experiences I had working with my friends. They turned me into the person I am today. If I didn’t have the good friends I worked with, didn’t have the guidance I had when I started out, I probably would say yes to every brand deal I get offered. Just to clarify, I do not say yes to every brand that reaches out to me. I’m very selective.
If I’m really being honest, I just wished for better results right now. I loved the journey I was put on. The friends and struggles I went through made me who I am today and I’m proud of who I am as a content creator and as a human.
But to answer your question, I wish I started sooner. But if I did start sooner, I’d take the classes I needed and network more. Education is important so I’d take more public speaking classes and never say no to coaching.
I’d go to all the conferences I could go to. Learn as much as I can and network at those events as much as possible.

Xavier, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi. My name is Xavier Ray. I’m an Asian American gaming content creator and live streamer. I live stream gaming content to Twitch and Youtube. I live in San Diego California. I’m a huge Godzilla fan so you might see a reference here or there to the giant monster somewhere in my videos or streams. My goal with every stream is to make every stream a party :)
Every now and then I stream with a few of my friends, so you’ll see them often.
When I stream by myself, I like to play single player games, but when I stream with my friends, we tend to play a lot of co op games. My streams are strictly 18 plus cause we make jokes and have a fun time in our streams :)
Think of us as Family Guy humor. So please don’t let your kids watch our streams haha
We’re a fun group of people to watch after a long day at work. Or you can watch us while you work in the office. We’re funny and entertaining. So if you like watching or hanging out with gamers or if you want to feel like you’re in a mini party, come and make us a part of your day. We’re really fun. Put us on your TV, or watch us while you’re at the gym on the treadmill. We’ll always be here to entertain you :)

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
It’s a lot of work. Sometimes I go with a day or two of no sleep. When some of my friends outside of this field see the Youtube videos or instagram reels, they think all we do is play videogames and that’s it. Streaming is a lot of fun, but it’s a lot of work. I’m not complaining, I just wish they didn’t think I’m lazy. This is a lot of work. I also have to be in the right headspace to stream. If I’m angry or tired, I give bad product.
There’s countless hours of editing, planning, keyword research, fixing the gear while live, then there’s handling the merch store, and countless other things that happen before and after a stream. Not only do I have to be my own editor, I have to be my own marketer, producer and my own everything lol

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Honestly, I’m doing this for my family. I want this career to take off so I can take care of my family with it.
I’m going to either take care of my family with content creation or die trying.
I want to build a loyal audience who make us a part of their day. I believe, we’re entertaining enough for people to watch us for hours straight. And we’ve done it before. Numerous of times. I actually believe we have what it takes to turn this into full time.
I’ve worked with a handful of brands for the stream and channel. That number could be higher, but it’s smaller because I’m very picky with the brands I work with. I don’t want to give my seal of approval to just anyone. They have to be good and they have to bring value to my audience. My motto when it comes to working with a brand is “I’m not going to promote your product unless I used it before or I really believe in you.”
I’ve had a few food brands reach out to me. Some of them had products that gave me stomach aches or bad reactions and of course, I said no to working with them. I care about my audience. I’m not going to promote something just for money. I have to use their product or believe in them.
What I’m trying to say is that I won’t endorse something unless I believe in them. If you’re a brand that wants to be promoted in my streams, hit me up. We might work something out if I believe in your product.
