We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kathleen Waters. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kathleen below.
Alright, Kathleen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was about 6 or 7 years old, my sisters and I used to pretend that we were the Supremes. There was a shoe shine stand outside of our house and we would get up there and sing and dance. At my elementary school, we would read books and act them out as short plays and it really started from there. I was very active athletically and wanted to be a dancer as well but that didn’t work out because my family had some issues and we ended up moving out of our home state to another state.
After graduating college I decided to pursue acting and modeling and what ever else. lol The singing actually come later because of the “triple threat”. I started performing in musicals and plays, and then singing in bands and recording with various producers and finally recording my own compositions.

Kathleen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was always interested in the entertainment as a child. My elementary school had the kids perform different plays and we had a singing show and I really enjoyed that. Movies and books were always a big thing for me as well. In high school, didn’t perform in shows but ushered for the many shows. I was also a baton twirler and a cheerleader in high school and college. So performing was always something that I loved. However, singing came much later. After college graduation, I decided that I would try to get into the acting business. So I auditioned for tv shows and movies as well as plays and musicals. The musicals prompted my attention to singing. Being around other people in the arts, I realized that you have be ready for anything which meant being able to dance, act and sing. I started taking lessons for all 3 and a friend of mine saw me in a musical and said I should start singing in bands. I have been singing ever since.
I am very proud of being able to pursue my dream and still have a child and work.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Yes. I tried for a couple of the singing shows. I was not selected and that really crushed me considering I didn’t even get past the VERY first person. After that I decided was never going to enter a talent competition again. One of my friends from work said “Kathy come and audition with for this show Tomatoes Got Talent. I did, and ended up winning. It was really really nice

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Rewarding for me is being able to perform as a soloist and with bands and have fun while performing and just hanging out with my peers. I love it and I am very glad that I am part of the entertainment industry.
