We were lucky to catch up with Haley Poinsette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Haley, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I love this question! Going from idea to execution has always been in my nature – I remember times where I would create a full at home skit for my family for fun, when I used to get ideas of what dance choreography could look like to certain music, or even how my idea of creating a college gymnastics team on a campus that had not seen gymnastics in decades; is still running to this day! Unique Houz was an idea birthed from a season of life where I started to truly understand how my passions all intertwined, what impact they could make on the community, and where I could fill needs with my experience. The first few things I did was research + begin the process of getting my LLC, along with putting together things like my mission and vision for the company. Personally, I feel getting the basic marketing pieces together are important – it’s hard to push a brand without at least a logo! My goal during this part of the process was to make sure that my brand pieces, would represent outwardly, the same level of intention as everything else I was going to do with the company itself. My Unique Houz logos were hand written by someone in my community (Kristi Anne Design) and then digitized, designed, and completed by a dear friend of mine.
After a few weeks, I started to focus more on getting some of my platforms set up. I created 3 social medias for the business (Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube), started a Google Email, began to work on the ways that I would like to capture interest (leads), and I felt it was important to be able to digitally complete waivers for clients/attendees. This led to slowing down a bit more to create a few other documents for ideas I had for a newsletter and vendors interested in being at events hosted by Unique Houz. Its all started to really come together after about 60 days.
For the next week or so, I spent many hours on Canva creating graphics that could be posted online while putting together some other marketing materials for some grass roots/gorilla style marketing that I had planned.
Once I got the LLC confirmed, insurance inplace, and marketing complete. I felt confident to post about my product, market it to other local businesses, and begin to create buzz + interest in my brand. The first 6 months of Unique Houz was all about creating relationship with the community, oozing intention whether we had 1 client or 20 clients. Though the business was launched, talking clients, and functioning pretty smoothly – there were many investments made to make our products more accessible to the community like creating a website (one stop shop of all information about Unique Houz), updating equipment pieces for fitness clients who need modifications, and getting some apparel for our existing staff/clients!
In my experience thus far: I have not stopped executing ideas that come to my mind, if they make the business better! It boils down to having a vision that you can break down into a prioritized plan, or task list for yourself to focus on. Use the google searches, the ChatGPT, the mentor, the book, etc – All while knowing that those are helpers, assists, “take most of it with a grain of salt” tips that can not beat what you know is the right direction for your business and how you want to represent it. Don’t rush the process, everyone’s journey to full execution of an idea might look different, but you will get there with the small tasks daily, even weekly, that will get you to the launch goal!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Haley – Founder & CEO
Welcome to Unique Houz, where innovation meets wellness. I am Haley, the founder and CEO of this dynamic community. Allow me to share my journey and vision with you.
About Me:
I am a Houston native and have always been passionate about health, wellness, and my community’s overall emotional well-being. It was this passion that drove me to establish Unique Houz. With over 12 years of experience in the Health & Wellness Industry, I have honed my skills and insights to create a business that strives for excellence in every endeavor.
My Journey:
I was a high-level athlete most of my life, dabbling in various sports before ultimately dedicating myself to gymnastics for the long haul. I went to high school at Katy Taylor but was homeschooled for the majority of my life, transitioning into public school during my sophomore year.
Throughout my college years, I supervised and coached at an International Gymnastics Camp during the summers, where I had the privilege of connecting with Olympians, USAG National Team Members & Coaches, and the future generations of college gymnastics athletes. I also continued to practice gymnastics, aiming to get picked up as a transfer student-athlete, which was a challenging endeavor.
I made the decision to transfer from Arizona State to The University of Houston – Main Campus, where I chose to major in Exercise Science and minor in Nutrition. While at UH, I founded the club gymnastics team, which continues to thrive as a club sport on campus today. After graduating, I delved into personal and group training full time and later transitioned into general managing health & wellness studios from 2020 to 2023.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Currently, I run 3 business social medias. I have Unique Houz, Unique Athletes, and my trainer page (iamuniquelyfitt). What has been working for me during this last year was to cross promote some of the posts, stay consistent with posting on each page, and keeping the content relatable!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
During the end of 2024, I started to get leads for clients over 50, which has mostly come from word of mouth. Although we live in an age where social media does have power, can get information to the masses quickly, and is the major form of marketing. Word of mouth is still an amazing source of new clients that will stay with you for some time!
